Yep, been there.  My SO said he was going to propose to me by around the end of September 2012.  Apparently this conversation (or at least, that particular aspect of it) was more significant to me than it was to him, because when I brought it up recently he was all, “Holy shit, I’d totally forgotten I said that! Surprised ”

@allyouneedislove:  My SO said I absolutely couldn’t participate. So I just sorta have to trust him to pick something I like. Either way I know he will grow through this process and it’ll make him feel like this is a choice he is making.

Just gotta cross my fingers for a ruby or emerald!

@allyouneedislove:  tell your mom what you want and then ask him if hes talked to her about it. that way he can still do it himself but youll get what you want.

My bf can be like that at times and sometimes you just have to grab the bull by the horns (in a sense). You are as much a part of this as he is, it shouldn’t always have to be up to the guy especially if he is a little slow on the uptake, lol. I told my bf that I had a pretty good idea about  the type of ring I wanted so I asked if I could be involved in the ring buying process. He was all for it! So I did some research and booked the appointment to look at stones. Once he was in the store and was able to participate (asking questions, giving opinions) he took things over. The ball was in his court, I just had to pass it to him ;).

Okay, I think you have to decide what is more important to you — looking at rings this weekend, or looking at rings this weekend being something he remembers all on his own. You could go over to the jewelry department saying something like, “Oh, I wanted to look for some new earrings” and see if being over there reminds him. Or you could just say, “Oh yeah, remember you said we should look at rings, this would be a great place to do that.”
