If you like them both, I would go with the one that is half as much!
I like the weave!!! It would be much easier to use during anytime of the year. The federal just seems 'busy'.
Hi Miss Fluer, I like the Tiffany Weave as well but in my opinion it looks very similar to your every day pattern so I'd have to cast my vote with the Federal pattern.
If you can't decide between the two, I would suggest checking out Bernadaud china. It's in the same price range as the Federal and has some really beautiful patterns. I also entertain a lot and if it were me, I would want something more formal than my every day.

I think the weave looks like an everyday pattern. And more importantly, it looks a lot like your everyday dishes.
The Federal is elegant and classy. I live outside DC too, so I know what you mean, and would definitely use this for entertaining. You are going to have your china for a very long time, so really pick something that makes you smile when you think about using it.
The federal just seems to busy to me and on top of that the price helps make the decision in my opinion.
I have Federal too and it is stunning!!! But hurry because they are discontinuing it as of July 31, 2009. I just had to buy the rest of my pieces.
I agree that the weave looks like a casual china pattern. I really like the Federal!

My fiance and I are torn between two formal china patterns, both from Tiffany. The first is Tiffany "Weave":

I really like both and so does my fiance. I like Weave because it is simple, classic and Irish. It is also almost half the price of Federal. I like Federal because it's very neoclassical and beautiful, but it is $300 for a place setting. It also reminds me of DC, where we met and live.
Which one would you go with? We are a household that will definitely use formal china as we love to entertain and have weekly dinner parties. Our everyday pattern is Waterford's "Grafton Street":
