Girls I need your help!!!
My FI and I have a National Guard Christmas party/dinner to attend TOMORROW night! It’s formal, he doesn’t have his uniform yet so he’s wearing a suit. I have 2 dress options
The first (and I’ll attach a picture) I’d wear it with black tights and black heels, sorry about the crappy Iphone quality.. It’s strapless.
#2 is a little black dress with a halter top, IMO it’s a little too big and I’d look like I was attending a funeral with black tights and heels.
Thank you for you help 🙂

The black and white one looks very summery to me with the flower detail. I dont see another picture?

why are you even debating? If you associate second dress with funeral, go with the first one! Which is really pretty, by the way. It’d be my choice to wear, hands-down.

@aaiimmee: I only have one picture, I took it this morning and forgot to pull the other one out.
My concern was is it too summery? The other one is definetly not summery but would all black be too much? How could I lighten it up?

it does look a little summery. for the other one, you could throw on some patterned black tights and a brightly colored cardigan and/or heels.

@StbHisMrs: I think the dress in the photo is too summery.
Do you have a brightly colored or beaded bag? A shiny cuff bracelet? Colored shoes?
All of those can make a black dress look less severe.

You could also do chunky colored jewelry with the black to lighten it up!

The first one does look too summery even though it has black in it. Can you wear some colored shoes with the black one? Or like accessorize it with something colored (scarf, belt, sweater)?

We have one to go to tomorrow night! Gosh i’m glad it’s not formal, though! I’m wearing purple tights and a black 3/4 sleeve dress–you can definitely wear colored tights with yoru black dress!
You could always wear a skirt, though–i was thinking formal=long dress

I also think its not quite formal enough, I’d go with the black dress and maybe some colored pumps or something.

The white dress is pretty but it doesn’t say “formal” to me- more like summer cocktail party.
If you are not crazy about the black dress, there is still time to go shopping. There are lots of great choices out there this time of year.

I concur with the other posters that the white and black dress is too summery and really not formal enough.

IMO, The dress you showed is not formal enough.
Also dress up the black dress with very classic overall look. Wear very nice jewlrey, hair with a sleek nice look either down or in a neat smooth poney. Small dressy clutch and perhaps an elegant shaw in red or pink for a pop of color.

I agree with adding accessories in bright color to make the black dress pop. I am a fan of bright shoes or tights.

I’d do the black halter dress. Perhaps you can put a fun cardigan over it or get patterned tights so that it looks more festive. Also your accessories could make a difference add a pop of a jewel tone or silver, however black is pretty common in the winter and it can still be festive.
Not sure what your dress looks like but something like this:
