My wedding is going to be a pretty formal event. Most of the women guests will be in formal gowns and their dates will be in dark suits. I do not expect my guests to go out and rent a tux. My question is should my Fi wear a tux? We have no bridal party or FOG, FOB to wear a tux. So would it be odd if only the Groom wore a one?

@babykoala: Not at all! You are going to be in the most glamorous gown at the wedding. I don’t see why your FI shouldn’t match your attire. But, if you are going in a more relaxed gown, try to make his “tux” match your level of formality.

Formal is traditionally used to refer to black tie or white tie, but anyway…if your guests will not be wearing tuxes, the groom does not need to wear one. If you suspect even one guest might don a tux, then the safe bet is to put your groom in a tux.

I always expect the couple to be the most formal.

If he wants to wear a tux, make it black tie optional, and put him in a tux. Some guests will own one, or will rent one. It’s up to them. If he doesn’t want to wear a tux, get a nice charcoal or navy suit.
