When mine was a GS we wouldn't allow her to sell to anyone, so we bought them all ourselves...60 boxes! Not sure what their goal is now, but that's what we had.
I think 3 boxes will help and she'll be happy with that.
I usually buy 5 boxes, not sure if that's good or not! I was devasted that my SO's little sister didn't sell cookies last year, I look forward to them so much! :(
I think 2-3 boxes is good.
@smyley: May I ask why you woulnt let her sell any?
Ha...because she was in Catholic school and they were ALWAYS selling something for fundraisers. My family and neighbors were tapped out, and we didn't want her standing outside of supermarkets or going door to door. It was easier to just buy them and give them away.
@smyley: Ohh ok, got it :)
Ya, we did the door to door thing while my mom followed us in the car, or waited on the sidewalk. Ohh memories!
@smyley: that is SO thoughtful and considerate! As the aunty with no kids I get hit up by my friends and family ALL the time: it's magazine, fruit, and now cookie season... it's really never ending. I'm happy to support these kids, but it gets $$
I was a girl scout and I think 2 or 3 boxes is more then enough. We never had goals for each of us, we just tried to sell as many as we could. We usually used it as a fundraiser for our troop (group trip, etc).
If I'm approached while at the store (when it's that time of year and they're camped out at the grocery store) I usually just donate some money towards the troup. That way I save myself from the drama of buying yummy cookies but knowing I shouldn't actually eat any.
My cousin's daughter actually called my mom while I was there for a late Christmas and my sister was sitting by as well. She has gotten awards for selling the most so this year her goal was selling 200 boxes. Her first hour of calling (Im sure the ones she knew would buy) she sold 55 boxes. My mom went a little crazy. She bought 2 boxes of about 4-5 different kinds and my sister and I both added 2 boxes each of Mint Thins (yuuuum!). That little girl really knows how to sell some cookies!
My mom was the troop leader growing up. I usually aimed to sell 85-100 boxes. I was always happy when anyone bought any # of boxes. 5-10 would have been a significant order that I would have been especially excited about.
My parents used to buy a case from each of us girls, and those were pretty much the only cookies we got to eat for the rest of the year, lol.
If you decide to buy more boxes than you want/can eat, you might consider donating them to the armed forces serving overseas. Most GS troops have a donation program for soldiers. If they don't have a program, look into Hugs for Soldiers; my little sister actually received a box of cookies from them during her most recent deployment to Iraq and it made her day!
@Mrs. Spring: LOVE the donation program for soliders!!! That's fantastic! Thanks also for the Hugs for Soldiers info!!

My niece is a girl scout for the first time and just called me up to buy girl scout cookies. While I am on a fitness kick and am a bit distraught about my niece's recent weight gain (she's 8 and has gained about 30-40 pounds over the last year from eating junk foods), I really want to support her in her cookie sale.
So - my question is, how many boxes should I buy? I know it's relative to how much I can afford to give... I'm just curious what's 'normal'.
I'm also not sure how they will get to me (since they live out of state) - so I'm thinking of telling her mom to just donate the cookies to some place... so, it's not really about the cookies I'll be getting as much as: what would be a decent amount to buy so it's actually helpful! and/or my niece would be excited about the order? ;)
Having never been a scout, I don't know what kind of sales goals they set for the kids, etc.
