I didn't register there because I'm now in Boston (originally from NY/NJ), but I'm shocked! It's such a staple store than I can't believe it!
Perhaps you should have your mom give some of your guests the heads up? If there are great sales, then can get you more stuff for their dollar (I usually wait for sales on registry items so that I can get larger gifts for the same amount of money).
Another thing to consider with your registry is what will happen if you get duplicates? I'm guessing they won't be taking returns.
Good luck!
Thanks Rosychiclet,
When I found out they were filing for bankruptcy I moved everything I could to my Bed Bath and Beyond Registry or found suitable replacement. THere were a few things that couldn't be substituted.
I few items have already been purchased from that registry, two are mini-appliances. I will test them to be sure they work perfectly, if not I will hopefully be able to exchange for a working one.
Yeah, I was registered at Fortunoffs also. Just so you know, if BBB doesn't have something on their site, as long as they carry the brand, they will be able to transfer your item there too. Just bring a print out of the registry to your local BBB store. Someone at their main office is in charge of that I believe. Also, my mom said that Michael C Fina in the city is having some bonus for brides transferring their Fortunoff registry over. I was hoping I could get some bargains, but right now their sales arent great, and people are buying anyway for fear they wont get the items if they wait too long. It is weird, Fortunoff has been a LI staple since before we were born- people look so shocked around the store.
I just found this out TODAY. Know how? Because my order was returned to their wharehouse by UPS (my new enemy!) and I tried to go online to look up my order number. I'm freaking out!! What if my beloved toasting flutes are gone!! I don't know if I can find those anywhere else...
Mighty Sapphire, I"m so sorry.
I took my last registry print out and I moved everythign I could to my Bed Bath registry and I opened a Macy's one for the reminder. My fiance and I ransacked Fortunoff two weeks to buy what I knew I absolutely wanted, and we will return after our honeymoon (if they are still open) to see if there is anything else we can get a deal on.
It sucks so much they will be gone.

Sorry, there are no users yet.
My fiance had purchased my engagement ring, and his wedding band at Fortunoff's the Source in Westbury, NY (Long Island). We have also registered there. They filed for bankruptcy and starting today they are liquidating their inventory. I'm so saddened by it. I did shrink down my registry, but hopefully we'll be able to get great deals on some of the stuff there, like my favorite Villeroy and Boch Audun china:

Anyone else registered there, or saddened by the loss of the store?
