I've lost some puppies in the past because mama will lie on top of the puppy and smother it! Hopefully mama cats are smarter than that!!
Good luck!!!
yeah, I heard of that too mr. bee. I was getting worried for the kitties because she kind of laid on them a little (not really, she just didnt move them after giving birth), but so far all 3 are ok. I dont know if cats get whelping boxes :p
Hopefully there are no runts! We had a runt once and he just never ate at all and died in my arms after a few days... I still remember how bereft I was!
So exciting to have a litter of kitties!!
We had kittens once when I was younger. There were only 3, including a runt. She survived except for a tragic accident at around 5 weeks that had nothing to do with her size. It was very sad.
So far we're still at 3. I've since been able to get a better look at #3 and s/he's orange, not calico. I just jumped to calico because that's what mom is lol
Looks like one still has an umblical cord attached. Not sure at what point I should intervene or just leave it to mom...
I think we are finished. We have 5 kittens. 2 black, two black and white, and one lone orange kitty. I ended up having to cut one umbilical cord. And I saw that one of the babies was a twin, but the twin wasn't fully developed. Does that count as still born? It had eyes, legs, tail, claws, but no ears or fur yet. idk. I'm pooped! Off to bed lol
So I was correct that she was finished and I didn't wake up to find anymore. They're all squiggly little things with a strong set of lungs lol I did find out today that one of the black and white kittens is actually grey and white, but I couldn't tell last night since it was all wet and the lighting was pretty dim.
Anyway, here's the happy family! I'll get some better pictures as they get a bit older, but I don't want to pester mom toooo much right now.

Awww - so cute! I want continued updates on your kitties - keep us posted!
I don't know why I can't see the pics :( I wanna see tiny adorable kitties!
That's so cool of you and her husband to help the mom out. It makes me so happy reading stories like this on WB. How did you know how to cut an umbilical cord? I probably would freak out and would be completely useless in a situation like that.
Meliss, I didn't "know" how but I just read about it on websites that listed some possible complications during birth. They let dads do it at the hospital for human babies so it musn't be that difficult, right? hehe. I just had to tie a bit of floss around it and snip above the tie. it was very easy and I bet you'd be able to do it also :)
@JoesWifey: Shows you how clueless I am about babies :) I can finally see the pic though and they're ADORABLE!
here they are, 2 1/2 days after they were born. They're funny little things. Some of them will hiss, but they're such defenseless little creatures that it only makes me laugh and want to snuggle them. They don't have teeth and can't even open their eyes! hehehe so funny.

What a cute little pile of fur! I love them. Kudos to you for helping out these lovely little guys.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH soooo cute! i love love love love kitties. We've always taken in strays, homeless, and pound kitties!! Bless your heart for taking them all in too. You are a kind soul :)
5 days old update! They are slowly starting to open their eyes. Yesterday one kitten had half of one eye opened and today 2 other kittens are starting as well. They're getting bigger too! And mama cat is starting to trust me a bit more, and dare I say almost even likes me?? hehe. DH said whenever he tries to pet her she kind of pushes his hand away with her paw, but she's never done that to me. She's hissed at him twice, but not me. And while DH was in front of her crate thing, I was calling for her from the side of the crate and she was looking for me, and even put her paw up on the side of the crate closest to me. She still doesn't really like to come out. I took the kittens out a little bit and she watched, but it wasn't too long before she had enough (but didnt hiss at me or anything) and she picked one up and brought it back into the crate so I gave the rest back. Suffice to say, I haven't been able to get their genders or take very good individual pics yet, but, in time.
Here are some day 4 photos that I got yesterday though

and look how big this little rump is getting!!

They are so cute!!! I want to hold them
awwwww i love the orange one! they are all adorable tho!
I have a few new pictures to upload, but in the mean time (for today at least) you can see the kittens on live webcam :)

So, about 2 or 3 weeks back, DH and I found a colony of stray cats. A couple were friendly, including a pregnant one. DH works at an animal shelter so we "rescued" her and he brought her in. Well, this week they brought in a TON of animals so the place is loud and crowded so DH decided it would be a good idea to bring her home today incase it was too stressful.
Whelp, tonight she's having her babies!! So far we've got 3. A black and white, black, and I think a calico, but I haven't had a good look yet. At first I was worried she wasn't cleaning them off well enough and hadnt chewed off the umbilical chords, and they weren't nursing, but once #3 was born she seemed to get the hang of it. Not sure how many are left, but I think I'll be up for awhile :p
mew mew mew! so cute!!
I'll get pics once everyone is cleaned up. Don't want to embarass mama by posting her labor photos for all the world to see
