I honestly don't know...I think craigslist and the paper are good places to start. Sorry I'm not more help, but it's awesome that you're doing this!!!
That ring must have quite a story...do you think someone may have thrown it in the lake a la Harold and Maude?
I'm not sure what happened to it, my dad said that the guy probly saw a hot girl at the lake & took off his ring, that they don't just come off. I believed him then, but I truly don't believe that now. He was just trying to make some money off of it. I mean, its the lake, water & coldness are a place where people accidentally loose rings. I should've just let him pawn it, I'm sure it would've been more likely for them to find their ring that way than my crazy 10 year old rationality of finding the guy in the classified ads... I never thought that they may be from out of the area :(.
I think a great idea would be to contact the record searchlight and write a story!
It sounds like you have great character, and I think the folks of redding/shasta would love to hear about it! You could tell your story, journey so far...include a picture...way for someone to prove that it's theirs (maybe leave out the exact location where you found it!) and the person would probably hear about it through the paper as it gets hyped up!
Just an idea!
I think it's great that you're looking for the owner! Imagine what a blessing it will be!
I had emailed the Record Searchlight about 2 years ago & they never replied to me. I figured it wasn't important enough for them to want to do a story. I suppose sending another email to the paper couldn't hurt!
Maybe if they can tell me the ring size & describe it, that would work. Could you describe a ring you lost 10 years ago?
I emailed the paper & they said they don't do lost/found stories & that people will probably wonder why its taken me so long to find the owners & be suspicious of me & they won't do the story annonomously. They suggested craigslist. I was 10 & had no idea of the sentimental value of the ring & wanted to get it back to the owners one day. But then I forgot about it, packed it up & had re-found it when I moved into the place I'm living now. I'll try craigslist, but it looks like I can't do much with it. I'd feel so sad selling/pawning it as THAT'S the reason I kept it from my dad. But I don't want to keep this other man's ring forever either so I don't want to keep it.

Ok so I know this sounds crazy but I found a man's wedding ring at Shasta Lake (in Northern California) back in ohh 1992ish? I was like 10 & my dad wanted to sell it at a pawn shop to make money, but I lied & said I lost it but secretly kept it since I wanted to find the owners. I couldn't put an add in the paper since I didn't have my own phone & I didn't really know what the internet was back then. That's the reason I still have it. I have kept it the past 15 or so years wanting to find the owners but haven't been able to. I had put an add on craigslist around a year or 2 ago but got a lot of people claiming the ring to be theirs & I wasn't sure who to believe... I'm not sure if anyone of them was telling the truth or not :(. I know its kinda a long shot, but if anyone here knows of anyone who lost a ring, I'm gonna guess around 1992 is when I found it?? I could be wrong, it could've been between 1990 & 1995 but I'm pretty sure it would've been closer to 92. I know it was in the summer because that's the only time I went to the lake. All I remember is that it was by this log cabin type store or lodge & that it rained that night. Is this you? Do you know of anyone? I emailed the local newspaper 2 years ago & they didn't reply. Maybe you bees can help??
