This past weekend my Mom, MOH and I went dress looking. I’ve had a dress in mind for about 12 years that I wanted and absolutely loved. They have it at a little bridal boutique but I wanted to go try on some other ones before I tried that one. I wanted to get the feel of different dresses and materials before trying on my favorite. We went to David’s Bridal, I figured this would be a good place to get the feel of different dresses.
I tried on six dresses…three were definitely “no’s” and three I liked a lot. I had no intention of buying a dress that day but found one I loved. I told the consultant that I had to sleep on it we noticed her attitude changed for the worse. She became very short with us and was telling me I “had to buy the dress today”. (It was on clearance so it may have sold out) She also told me I should order a size 14…I tried on a size 10 and it fit great. We left the store without a dress…I decided I needed to see how I felt in the morning and if it was worth it to pass on the dress I’ve loved for years.
After having dreams about the dress I decided it was the one for me and I needed to buy it. I purchased the dress online and it should be here in a few days!
(I really am happy with it despite the look on my face, I didn’t know my MOH was taking my photo at that exact moment)

Wow! So will it need much in terms of alterations?

I tried that dress on, it is so pretty! It looks great on you, all that sparkle is going to photograph beautifully! Sorry for the commission focused consultant, glad you got what you wanted!

ChristinaC598: Gah super pushy sales consultants are the worst. And when you’re trying on wedding dresses that’s even worse. Sorry you had to deal with that :(<br /><br />
But, on a brighter note, your dress is stunning! I love dresses with contrasting sashes, it really gives them a point of difference. Plus all the sparkles on your dress are really going to shine bright in your photos 🙂

ChristinaC598: I’m sorry your consultant was pushy but I love that you ordered it online so she doesn’t reap the benefits. #sorrynotsorry
You look great!

Thanks everyone! I was really surprised that I fell in love with a dress at DB!
Moorea12: I ordered a size 10 online. I have no idea why she said a size 14. Maybe so alterations could charge/make more money (?).
NYE2014: That’s exactly why I ordered online! Plus it was 8am on Sunday and they don’t open until 11am and I live two hours away.

So, just curious, did you ever try on the dress you loved for so long or is it a distant memory now?

michfurn: I did not try it on! The dress I loved was an Alfred Angelo…it is satin. I tried on a satin one at David’s and it seemed pretty wrinkly (I know they keep them crammed in bags but, still it was really wrinkly). I have to travel two hours to get to my wedding location and I worried that it would get super wrinkly in transport.
Oh…and it cost $600 more plus alterations!
(This one but in black)

I should add. We are going to change the buttons on the back so they are black.

I’m happy you knew better and ordered a size 10! I was only asking about alterations because it looks like it really fits you well as-is. I know alterations are supposed to make it “fit you exactly perfectly,” but sometimes I try to remember that it’s a dress. For example, I don’t expect my bridesmaids to get alterations… just buy a dress in your size (especially considering the type of dress I think I’ll be asking them to wear). Obviously wedding dresses are quite different, but sometimes I do wonder if a bride with hefty alterations was told to purchase the wrong size in the first place.

Lovely. I like the sparkle and the way the lace lies on the floor
