Found things 'purchased on my registry that I didn't register for…?

I had that happen with Crate & Barrel but it was for these wine bags we didn’t register for, not in place of something else we wanted. I’m not sure how the person buying designates that it is associated with your registry.

We had a registry at BBB too. In our experience, if our guests bought anything for themselves in the same order that they purchased registry items, those new items would be added to the registry. We had like a shower curtain rod and some other weird stuff show up on the registry, but we never received them at the shower or the wedding.

Sunshineliz22:  this is pretty normal and happened to us. there are two possibilities.

1) a guest purchased you something off your registry and purchased those things for him/herself, or

2) they couldn’t locate the set you wanted so they purchased a different one. you can then return that one for the one you wanted or in-store credit, no biggie.

someone did this with our Keurig machine and K cups holder, and we just exchanged them for the models we wanted. no harm no foul!

That happened at us on the Target registry, which I’ve since heard there are problems with often. We haven’t received it yet, so I’m hoping it was a fluke, but it was a hummingbird feeder and hummingbird nectar, lol. It’s actually not a bad idea and I love hummingbirds, but we live in an apartment without a balcony so I don’t think we have any place to put it!

I found some plates on our registry we didn’t register for but my mom bought them because she liked them better than what we HAD registered for (thanks mom!). They added them so that we could see that similar plates had been purchased. Not remarkably we returned them for the plates we wanted. :p

Sunshineliz22:  Ha, this just happened with our BBB registry too. We’re pretty sure it was just a personal purchase that got tacked on to the registry purchase (unless we’re going to be getting random vacuum bags and a $1.99 bag of chocolate covered pretzels…).

This happened with our Target and BBB registries – I don’t know how someone designates it as being part of your registry or not, so I’m just assuming it is anything in the same order? The things on ours were just extra items (at BBB it was a 3-section dipping plate and at Target it was a crockpot), not things that looked like they were supposed to replace other items. We did get both at the shower.

It happens, its no big deal. BBB has a great return policy, just wait until after the wedding and swap it out for something you do want.

I saw one registry that was hilarious. When the guest bought items for the bride and groom, they also picked up things for themselves, like Kleenex and Tampax. Heck, I didn’t even know that BBB sold those things. There were more things bought “not on the list,” than on the list.

Also happened to me with Crate and Barrell. Some of the items I did recieve as gifts and some I never did, so they must have been personal purchases made at the same time.

AHart77:  +1.  This happened to us with our Target registry.  When I asked guest services about it they said someone had come in with my registry and picked out those curtains, instead of correcting my aunt they let her purchase them and added them to my registry.  I went slightly bridezilla on them after that.

Sunshineliz22:  at some stores, a person can buy a gift for you and add it to your registry.  There is a huge perk behind this.  Most stores have a different exchange/refund policy for wedding registry items.  Most of the time, the time period for exchanges/refunds is a lot longer for wedding items than items purchased normally….. so while you may not like the items purchased for you off the registry… at least you will most likely have a better return policy……
