After work I found this little guy wandering the street outside my apartment. I couldn't leave out there :-( He wasn't wearing a leash or a collar. I reported him to our apartment managers, as if you have a pet a photo is required in your file, and he doesn't match.
If no one claims him, we are going to keep him. I would never take him to a shelter. Our other puppy is a shelter dog, so oh well!
He was smelly and dirty, so he has eaten, had a bath, and is sleeping on the couch. I will make a vet appointment for him soon if he isn't claimed. And a grooming appointment, LOL.
Here's a pic - he doesn't sit still very well.
He's precious. He looks a little calmer now, after his bath. LOL. He's sweet! I wish I knew more about him - age, name, breed, etc. Oh well! Hopefully our vet can help with that stuff.
Haha he is so cute! He definitely needs a grooming but his shaginess is adorable
is there anyway that you could check to see if he is microchipped at the vet/pound? the only reason I say this is because my parents recently fostered a dog and thought it didnt have a home...but turns out that there was a family that had lost their family pet WEEKS before...and they were able to link the dog to the family through the microchip.
if no one claims him thats an amazing story! :)
He is SO adorable!! I love his little shaggy look he has going on (reminds me of one of my girls). Omg, I wish I could have him!
I know you have one dog, so are you able to keep them apart until you can get the new guy checked for any diseases, fleas, etc?
I hope you get to keep him! :)
Looks like a Yorkie from the pic but It's hard to judge size. I would put up posters around the area and an ad in the paper or Kijiji.
We will definitely check, Ms. Teddy!
Here's another pic... After his bath!

O.M.G. soooo cute!! I'm a sucker for wondering/homeless animals as well (that's how my family acquires about 99% of all animals we've ever had). and THANK YOU for being kind and taking him in! :)
He is adorable!
I have a yorkie too so he has a soft spot in my heart already!
Awe... He is so cute! That is very kind of you to take a dog in. Most people usually pass them by.
Thank you for taking him in! It makes me feel much better about the world when I encounter people who are willing to care for stray animals. He's completely adorable! If his family is missing him, I hope they find him and if not, congratulations on the new addition to your family!
Awwwwwww! so cute! We found a stray shih-tzu last thanksgiving and her fur was matted and she was skin and bone. We ended up keeping her after not being able to find her original home (not sure if she really had one) and she slept for like 2 days straight! We thought something was wrong with her but now she is a fun, loving pup that loves to play with our other dogs
I hope someone steps forward and claims him. Our apartment is putting some flyers out, so we will see. He's a cutie pie for sure. He and my terrier, Toby, are chasing each other right now. I couldn't leave him out there. I thought at least I could give him a warm loving home until someone can track him down! I love animals way too much to pass him by!
Such an adorable little guy!
I just hope there's not a family out there missing him :(
@meliss - our apartment complex is putting out flyers tonight, and scanning their files for a match (we have to register pets before we move in.) I hope someone is missing him!
Oh my god he's so cute!!!
I hope you find his family, if they're missing him, and if not, he'll be an awesome addition to your family :)
It is possible he is not from your apartment complex. I found two dogs hit by a car on the side of the road (they ended up Ok and back with their owner) but had eaten through their leads and wondered several miles from home. I would check with your local animal control/aspca/human society/vets to see if anyone is looking.
@Lindsay12.31.2010: I'm sure you're doing your best to find the owner if there is one. It's so kind of you to try to help him out. And if he does stay with you, he's a lucky dog :) It's just that lost animals can travel long distances sometimes so the past owners may never see the signs. I know shelters have a lost & found section on their websites, but I'm not sure how it works otherwise unless he has a microchip. Maybe the vet can recommend something.
Awesome for you taking him in :).
I adopted a cat from the shelter once, the owners were out of town for about 2 weeks & the pet sitter was told the cat hid from strangers. About a week after I adopted the cat, the owners called the shelter & were frantic. They loved the kitty so much but she was already adopted (to me)! The shelter called me & it was up to me on what to do, I brought the kitty back to her owners. They gave me a thank you card & a potted flower & were EXTREMELY grateful for me giving her back & they cried. So just keep that in mind before you get too attached! The owners may not show up for a few weeks.
I'd let the shelters know & post something up on craigslist.
If someone comes forward, they should PROVE its their dog! I've heard of people posing as owners to get a free dog or to try to get reward $, awful I know, but its happened.
That's a good idea, I will check with nearby houses. I will put an ad on craigslist too.
Where in Missouri do you live? I, too, live in MO and have a few friends with those dogs, all male except one. If you live anywhere near any of them I could ask if they lost their dogs. I'm pretty sure all of them live in Springfield. If you live elsewhere don't worry though, I doubt they could have gotten far! lol
awwww he reminds me of our buddy! sooo cute and sooo lucky to have been found by you!

@missjyc - so precious!!
@bride21 - we are in Columbia, about three hours from Springfield! Thank you for checking though!
I understand not taking him to a shelter, but please go beyond your apartment complex to try to find the owner and consider contacting the shelters near you so that if someone calls or comes in they can contact you. I would be devastated if my little guy went missing. I know you are well meaning and the owners will be so very grateful to you if you help reunite them with their dog!
@Lindsay12.31.2010: Okay, that just means none of them have lost their dogs and are still happy. lol. Good luck with the pup!
@ladyox - I have already left messages for two shelters here in town, and will email pictures to them when I get a return phone call. I would be delighted to reunite them if I can!
Awww! you're the best!
I would definitely keep him apart from your other dog until your vet clears him. Also check for the microchip!
I looked for the microchip (our puppy has one) and didn't see one, unfortunately! I wish there was one :(
