I’m going nuts! I’ve been so pre-occupied with the wedding and birthdays (both our families are born within days of each other) that I totally forgot about a market that’s held in our (new) town once a year — which means Fi’s parents are going to visit and the house is still almost completely empty!
It’s been 2-months since we’ve moved-in and aside from the bedroom and computer nook, and half of the dining room, it’s unfurnished!
It’ll take awhile before we figure out a few things but I’d really, really love to fix-up the entryway! Plus it’s getting dark now and we really need to find ceiling lamps that’ll fill the 2 gaping holes the previous owners left!
Bees, please help!
View from the front door looking in
The sitting/taking your shoes off area in between the funky 70’s closets and the guest bathroom (I think I’ll paint the closet and doors white)
the stairs with matching 70’s railings (not sure what to do with them)
here’s the half bathroom (probably gonna paint the door white)
view from the little chairs toward the entrance (notice the huge holes on the ceiling). the left door is the study and the right door is my craftroom (or our future babies bedrooms)

Okay, the first photo frm the front doors looking in. You have a green plant. I would move that plant to the location of where you just have a planter with a cane/piece of wood in. In the place of the green plant that you move, get a taller green plant. Do you live near an IKEA at all? Something thin and tall.
move that green plant as mentioned above and in place, put an entry table against that small wall and a mirror above.
And on the far wall, next to the window, how about a framed print?

You also need a few area rugs.
Maybe a runner for as soon as you walk in but then another in the space where your two chairs are located. Again, if you have an IKEA, Target, Walmart…you can find these items relatively inexpensive.

To the left of the study door, again, how about a framed print. Head to Michaels, AC Moore. They have a ton of prints for cheap and make sure they can fit into a pre-made frame that you can buy right there too. Don’t forget to use your 40% off coupon for these places as well.

Same thing above those two chairs. A framed print or a hanging tapesty…

A rug as soon as you walk in would be great. Maybe an area rug for the area by the chairs, extending to in front of the door? Some form of art above the chairs. And perhaps a coat rack or picture on the wall that is visible in the fifth photo. In addition to Stephin said.

@cyneswith – great minds think alike!

What about some baskets by the chairs. Always nice to throw shoes in or winter clothes.

@quiche I’d really appreciate any ideas! But being in Sweden makes things a little difficult with shipping and availability … and believe it or not, most of the furniture stores here all sell same styles! They don’t have the variety like we do back home in the States! Even though Scandanavia’s a part of Europe, it doesn’t make the selection any greater either: there’s no small furniture stores that’ll cater to it. There are a few really expensive designer places but I don’t wanna have to sell my organs to afford it!
Our house is a wooden, cottage-style home. I wanted something warm, rustic, cottage like. I was thinking of brightening up the sitting area since there isn’t a window directly across from it and it’s dark when I have all the other doors closed.
Here’s some examples of things I liked:

Basically, I know I want a rug, a mirror, a bench, and some picture frames or art, and a big-o plant. BUT I don’t know where to put them cause there are a few places and I’m not sure where’s the best place for it.
Area A: I want to have a bench here so ppl can take off their shoes. But do I put a mirror here or some pictures on top?
Area B: I want to put a mirror here for practicality, but the area is so small. If I put a mirror here, then I probably shouldn’t put a mirror in Area A.
Area C: This area is a perfect area to display some flowers and put away keys IF I don’t put a mirror in Area B. Here I don’t have the size limitations and it can help frame the rest of the house BUT it might not be as practical since it’s not directly next to the door like Area B is.
So there you have it ladies … mirror, pictures, and a place for keys … but where’s best?

@mishelleez Thank you!!! Decorating’s tough business! When I was waiting to move in, I had a million decorating ideas but as soon as it finally happened, it’s like everything got all jumbled up and I’m left clueless.
@stephinPA Girl, thank you! I wish there was a Michael’s and Target here! Sweden’s known for design but it seems like everyone all sells the same-o stuff! I’ve been to all the large furniture places and the variety is NOTHING like the stuff we get back home! I’m also trying to put together things on a shoestring budget and trying to be crafty at it (DIYing antiques)!
@cyneswith Ooh Ok I’m gonna start looking for some rugs! Thank you! Oh and BTW, those chairs don’t have to stay there. I just put it there cause I didn’t have anywhere else to put it.

If you keep the chairs there, consider a small table between the chairs, making it more of a conversation area. If you put a bowl on the table, its a great place to put keys, etc.

I just checked the local version of Craigslist and found that a neighbor is selling all this stuff! I live in a tiny town and these ads are regional so I’m super happy it’ll just be a few blocks away!
Mirror is selling for $34 (dimensions 55″ x 22″ in Indian wood)
Picture frames $25 for all 4 – holds 4×6 pictures (I think)
I also like #2, the mailbox looking things but have to idea what to do with them $20 for both!
I’m so excited! I hope it’s all still available!I have a good chance since they only posted the ad up last night.
