- Wedding: August 2011
Hi, I just wanted to give you all the heads up about a “seller” on here, hopefully no one else will get scammed the way several brides (including myself) already have. She initially contacted me through a want ad I had posted on weddingbee http://classifieds.weddingbee.com/topic/wanted-monique-lhuillier-giada-wedding-gown-from-spring-2011-any-size-any-length Here’s another post by someone else scammed by the same woman-
It sounded great at first, she said it was a sample, she said she had three of them; a size 2, 4, & 6. She said she would take $3550, and shipping from Canada would be $93 (a total of $3,643). I only considered it because she was willing to go through paypal (which I have used for about a decade without a single issue & I knew I would be covered against fraud/scams). I ended up going through with the transaction and paying her through paypal. She wrote after I paid her and said:
"Hi there Heidi,
Just a little issue, Paypal is blocking the money(I don't know why). It's not realizing it, here's the other options. I can refund you some of the money so that you can send the money through money gram or bank transfer? I will still leave some of the money you sent on the Paypal account for us to be able to communicate regarding the shipping.
Please, answer ASAP so we can organize everything before the end of the day because we are closed during the weekends. "
She immediately wrote a second message saying:Here's what we did, we had sent you back $3100
Keeping $563 on Paypal for your security and safety ( shipping etc. ) When you're ready just let me know what option you want to use. Money gram, bank transfer or anything else. "
Immediately there were several red flags to us; first that she said she couldn't do anything with her account yet was able to partially refund us and keep $563, second that she wanted to do a write transfer/bank transfer of the $3,100 (in which case we would have no recourse after paying her if we never received the dress or if it was substantially different than what it was supposed to be), third that she was trying to rush me into doing the wire transfer by the end of the day, and finally when she did the partial refund on paypal instead of listing the $563 as a payment for goods (under which it would be covered by paypal) she listed it as a gift, saying that a tracking number was therefor not necessary and that she had already shipped the item. In a subsequent message she did admit to not having shipped it yet, saying that paypal must have already had that filled in and it defaulted to those settings when she did the partial refund. We asked her for the remaining amount to be refunded (this was a little over a week ago now) and never heard from her again. Paypal has opened a case against her.
The pictures she sent me of "the exact dress" are actually from a website http://www.foreverandeverevents.com/tag/monique-lhuillier-2011-spring-collection/ posted in Oct 2010 by Mary Lee Herrington in London, who does event and wedding planning and took those pictures at a trunk show at Browns Bridal in London (not from from a small dress shop named "Miss Angel" in Canada, which is where she says this dress is from- which there is NO trace of any store anywhere online- not a website, not a phone number, not an address, nothing) for the spring 2011 line. When I asked the seller to send me pictures of the actual dress since I knew those were from a website that I found on google images (it's about the 5th image result), she said that was the exact dress I'd be receiving and that she couldn't provide me with any other or more detailed photos.
She also has this dress listed on www.oncewed.com http://www.oncewed.com/44179/used-wedding-dresses/size-8/giada/I contacted her using the form on the site but using my fiances email address & asking her for some pictures of the exact dress I'd be purchasing from her & pointing out I'd already seen those pictures on another website from 2010. She responded with the same email address she'd been emailing me with ([email protected] so I know this is the same woman) and said
Well we took it out for pictures once because we want it to be preserved in the garment bag to avoid dirtying it. “
So she refuses to show a single picture of the dress, beside the one from google images taken by an event planner in London at a trunk show in London back in Oct 2010.
Please don’t be another victim of her scam!!!
Btw, paypal said they 100% guarantee all of their transactions on goods whether they’re one Ebay or not, I called them to file a claim and open a case, which they did today and they were very helpful, and said it definitely appeared to be fraudulent. They said they would contact her and she has 10 days to respond- regardless they said we would either get our money back or get the dress AND if it wasn’t the correct dress, size, or not in the condition she said it was or if it was a knock off that we would get our money back in those cases as well. A bit of a process but hooray for paypal! I hope this woman gets what’s coming to her and that no one else falls prey to this!!
