I bought two bottles of Fre alcohol-removed wine at the grocery store the other night, one Chardonnay and the other Merlot. I thought it would be fun to try and at least have something to drink when my husband has a drink! I tried the Chardonnay tonight and it’s actually pretty good! I think it tastes like a mix of wine and white grape juice. It’s definitely pleasant to drink, just not a total wine clone. I’m excited to try the Merlot. Anyone else try other varieties? Thoughts? @DZMeadowz: I haven’t had it in ears, but the mother of an ex of mine would drink it regularly since she gave up drinking and raved about it. There’s also an alcohol-free champagne she would enjoy at times too. She said it was pretty good.

I tried it because wine is my favorite but it didnt do it for me… I have been drinking NA beer when I am craving a drink. I like the O’Douls Amber the best.

I was stoked to find these for the holidays! I bought the chardonny and the merlot, and didn’t like them at all. I think I had a half glass of each before I poured them down the sink. I’d rather have sparkling juice.

@DZMeadowz: Never tried them. Just an FYI, most “alcohol-free” wine/beer, does contain small amounts of alcohol. Just in case you didn’t know.

@MrsWBS: It says on the bottle that there is less than .5%. I guess I would ask your doctor about it but considering mine said I can have an occasional glass of real wine, it shouldn’t be an issue.

@SaraP2012: Oh, I know it’s really small and likely not an issue. I am definitely not against the occasional drink while pregnant. I just know a few people who want to avoid all alcohol and didn’t realize “non-alcohol” drinks still have a little bit in it until after the fact. Also, not sure how far along OP is, but if she is in her 1st trimester she might want to know to avoid at this point.

@DZMeadowz: I found an alcohol removed wine here in NZ and bought a bottle of sparkling and a bottle of merlot for the holdiays. Ugh. I think I managed half a glass of both before I poured both of the bottles down the drain. It was too sweet and too strange. I hope the brand you’ve found is better!!

I had “alcohol free” wine during my first pregnancy, but it turned out that it actually contained .5% alcohol, which is very very low but more than I was comfortable drinking (I’m in recovery, so I was a non-drinker before pregnancy anyway). Just make sure you understand what the alcohol content actually is before drinking it — it may be non zero.
