It’s really not bad! I was scared the first time I had one, too (also to look for cysts).

Your tech may let you put the probe into place, which might be more comfortable for you. Also, they don’t usually need to put it all the way “up there”, so while it’s a bit invasive, it’s not as bad as you may think when you first see the probe.

They aren’t bad at all. Try not to worry!!!! Sometimes a bit uncomfortable if they need to push it a certain way to see but it isn’t bad at all. I had one every week for my last pregnancy for the last 10 weeks (thanks pre term labor)

I’ve had two transvaginal ultrasounds. They’re not bad. The probe is slim and doesn’t need to be inserted very far. They lubricate it so there’s no discomfort.

It’s no worse than having a pelvic exam and it’s actually a little less awkward, IMO.

sjhanddab2014:  I’ve had a few, they’re really not that bad; I don’t know if you’ve had a cervical smear test (PAP test) or an STD test, but I’d say it’s more comfortable than those. The only time I didn’t like it was when I had really bad adhesions (my uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes were all fused together..) and that was kind of painful. Otherwise, it’s fine 🙂

Nothing to worry about in terms of the test itself 🙂  A wee bituncomfortable IF you tense up so try to relax (yeah, right) but it doesnt hurt. Good luck. You will be fine 🙂  yell them you are nervous…usually they assume it, but make sure to tell them anyway!!!

It’s less invasive than the speculum and a pap smear. It’s really not bad.

As others have said, they really aren’t that bad! I had one at my FIRST EVER gynecologist visit when I was in high school (& a virgin) to check for cysts and that was slightly traumatizing, haha. But I’ve had them multiple times since (cysts & pregnancy), and I actually think a normal gynecologist visit with those duck lips spreading you apart is much worse than the transvaginal ultrasound.

I had to have one to look for a ruptured cyst… While on my period… With a male tech. The male tech didn’t bother me (my ob/gyn is male) but that with my period was awkward! If I can get through that, it’ll be a piece of cake for you. Just go to your happy place and you won’t even notice what’s going on. It’s really not that bad!

Really it’s not too bad.  I think a lot of the time people exaggerate the pain with some procedures.  I just had a Mirena IUD inserted today and people told me I would be in so much pain and bed ridden for days.  It wasn’t much worse than a pap smear- and the transvaginal ultrasounds are barely even uncomfortable.  If you’re truly worried about the pain level, pop some ibuprofen before the visit and it might help.  Try to relax.  The more you tense up, the more something will seem to be uncomfortable. Good luck!
