I had the same thing, the Dr. said it was most likely your body releasing old blood and if it's around when you should have gotten your period it's totally normal, I have had a mc and you would def. know if you were having one, you would continue to bleed and it would get progressively worse (or at least that was my experience) good luck and congrats I will send positive thoughts your way!
Yes! It was around the time when I should have had my period...maybe a few days after now that I think about it. Thanks so much!
YEAH HUN I HAD THE SAME THING WHEN I WAS PREGNANT IT WAS A BROWNISH COLORED BLOOD AND IT HAD A FUNNY SMELL. IT'S JUST OLD BLOOD. LIGHT CRAMPING IS NORMAL UNLESS THE BLOOD BECOMES SUPER HEAVY AND RED. OR YOUR CRAMPS BECOME SO BAD THAT YOU CANT MOVE THEN I WOULD SUGGEST GOING TO THE HOSPITAL. RELAX JUST DRINK LOTS OF WATER MAYBE EVEN A WARM BATH OR SHOWER TO EASE YOUR DISCOMFORT.
ALSO IF YOU HAVE A SMART PHONE U SHOULD ADD "ISTORK" ITS A PREGNANCY FORM THAT IS VERY HELPFUL! IM ON THERE MY NAME IS MISSMARCHMOMMY!
Speaking from experience, a miscarriage is much more than 24h of light bleeding. It's more like 7-10 days of heavy bleeding.
That doesn't sound like a m/c to me. Cramping is completely normal in the early stages of pregnancy - I actually had quite intense cramping for the first eight weeks and everything is fine. If it was actually a m/c, it would have been heavy bleeding and there would have been noticeable clots, although if you were super early, they may not have been that noticeable, but at the very least, it would have been like a very heavy period.
Have you taken any further tests? For peace of mind, you may want to take one and given that it's two weeks after your first positive, the line should come up much darker and quicker than it did before. It that happens, it means your hcg levels are increasing and all is most likely fine.
@chastenet: my experience too. Cramping with pregnancy especially early is normal, it is your uterus expanding. With both of my term pregnancies, I had light spotting to medium spotting around the same time as my periods for months. I think what you are going through is perfectly normal for early on.
If this was two weeks ago, then you should be able to tell by a HPT. If you did M/C, then your levels of HCG would be down/zero'ed out by now, and you'll get a negative test. If you didn't, then you'll get an immediate positive test result. Seconding PP's, my M/C bleeding was HEAVY and lasted for days, but I was also 10wks along. I don't know if it would be the same at 4 or 5wks. Definitely see if your doc can get you in sooner to help alleviate your fears. ((hugs))
doesnt sound like one to me.... when i had one at 5 weeks it was bright red blood... and ALOT of it. i bled for 4 days very heavy and bright pinkish reddish wateryish.
Agree with others that it does not sound like you miscarried. With my miscarriage (which occurred early, around 6 weeks), I bled for 4 days heavily and then lightly for 3 days. It was heavier than a period and accompanied by cramps much worse than my period. I would, however, call your doctor and ask if you should come in earlier than Friday.
Good luck!
I took another test and it's still positive and darker than before. Honestly i'm just reading all this crazy stuff on the internet and freaking myself out. I'm staying away from researching and over-analizing every symptom I get. LOL. I'm beginning to drive myself crazy lol.

I really think you're fine. I've had a m/c and you would definitely know it. I bled for about 7 days with mine. Good luck!
Remember that you can always bug your OB whenever you have concerns. Sometimes it will turn out to be nothing, but always better to know either way. Any time you have bleeding during PG, they will get you in right away (and if they don't, find a new OB). With my PG with my son, I had spotting at 6wks and they had me in within hours, and while it turned out to be nothing to worry about, it made me feel much better. Then, when I had literally a spot of blood at 31wks, then had me come in "just in case" and it turned out to be pre-term labor which turned into 5 weeks of bed rest. Moral of the story: sometimes it's nothing, sometimes it's something, but always call your doc with bleeding and they should always take you seriously when you do.
So, just started bleeding again. No cramps yet. This can't be normal right?!? Call my OB and they just said that they are "wrapping up for the day" so we'll see you tomorrow. Ahhhhhh!!!
@UpstateNYPrincessBride: Did they really say that to you!? I would be looking for a new OBGYN. Sorry, IMO, that is just unacceptable.
Go to the ER if you can't wait for your OB and don't put yourself through a night of stress and internet searches. I went to the ER early in my first pregnancy, they got me right in, gave me an ultrasound and got a heartbeat, sent me home to relax. The reassurance was worth the trip.
bright red blood or brown? ditto PP; i'd find a new OB pronto and see if you can get in today or head to the ER, especially if it's red blood.
@KatyElle: I completely agree. OP, I'd make a trip to the ER just to get some peace of mind!
Bleeding can be common early in pregnancy, so don't stress too much yet (easier said than done...) Make sure you rest, don't do too much activity etc. just take it easy until you get to see your doctor just in case. Good luck!
@UpstateNYPrincessBride: oh goodness i cant believe they said that... I mean I understand that they close at a certain time but they should have at least advised you to go to the ER
Cramping is normal - I still have small cramps occasionally, and I'm at 9 weeks.
Unless it's bright red & you're filling a pad in an hour or less, there isn't too much cause for alarm.
There is also the chance that you have bleeding from a subchorionic hematoma - which is just blood that forms around the sac when it attaches to the uterus. When it starts to heal itself, your body will either discharge the blood or absorb it.
Hope that helps! Best of luck at your appointment!
I'm not able to give you advise but just wanted to bring my support. Hope everythings okay and keep us posted!
So, just got back from the Dr's. They did an ultrasound and it only showed a tiny black dot. Which could be a pregnancy or could not be. Sent me for a blood test and my hormone levels are pretty high measuring around what would be 5 weeks. So I have to go back on Sunday to test again to see if my levels are going up or down and they will have the results hopefully on Monday. So basically their saying either i'm not as far along as we thought or i've had a miscarriage already and there's still a small bit that hasn't passed yet. She did say my hormone levels were high (I think she said 900 or 9000 i'm not sure which). So basically i'm freaking out and can do nothing but wait until next week. Has anyone had anything like this happen? Maybe had an ultrasound at around 5 weeks and just showed a small black dot? I'm really hoping that everything will be alright since my chances of getting pregnant were already less than 12%. I'm thinking this was my one and only chance. Guess that's life!
((hugs)) keeping fingers crossed for you; i know it's tough but try and distract yourself this weekend until your next round of bloodwork. so sorry you're in limbo...
I'm really sorry you're going through this :( Hopefully everything is just fine and you just miscalculated. It must feel horrible to not know and I hope you get good news soon!
One of my friends had something similar happen to her cousin, she had a molar pregnancy where the placenta developed abnormally and no fetus ever formed. She got a positive pregnancy test and everyone thought she was pregnant but there was never a baby. It was really upsetting since her chances for pregnancy were low too, but she did get pregnant again shortly after her D&C and is now 8 months pregnant with a healthy baby girl :)
Even if something is wrong and this pregnancy doesn't work out you can still try again. Another friend of mine has only one ovary due to cancer when she was a teenager and even though she was supposed to only have a 15% chance of getting pregnant she now has a 3 year old little boy and a newborn baby girl.
@UpstateNYPrincessBride: I wish I had answers for you, dear. I am crossing my fingers, prayng, wishing, thinking good thought for you! I'm sorry you have to wait so long:( I THINK it'll be ok because women think they're further along than they actually are ALL the time, so try to relax:)
if you're at 900ml then you're probably at 4w3d but if you're at 9,000 then you're probably at 5w2d. this is a chart of where your HCG levels should be:
http://www.babymed.com/hcg-level-in-early-pregnancy
My doctor told me 5 weeks was way too early to see anything. She wanted me to go at 7 weeks for mine (because I had a little spotting too but my hcg levels had indicated things were moving in the right direction) and the receptionist accidentally took me earlier, so I was 5 w 6 days, and there was nothing to see really. They said they could see the sac and MAYBE a fetal pole which was really just a tiny tiny dot. My doc had me come back a week later and the change was remarkable- still tiny but more than a dot for sure. That was 6 weeks 6 days. I would try not to worry, easier said than done I know. It doesn't sound like your doctors are doing much to calm your nerves though, which isn't helpful.
Just heard from the doctors office. My levels went from 936 on friday to 1493 on Sunday only a 60% increase. What do you girls think? It that enough? I havn't talked to my actual doctor just a nurse.
Going up is a good thing. 48 hour doubling is the ideal, but a lot of people take longer. Have you had any more bleeding or cramping?
Mabye it was implantation bleeding? If your hormones are increasing that's a good thing!
Best of luck
No more spotting! And i'm feeling really nausous for the past few days so i'm hoping everything is ok. I go back again for another test tomorrow. This is all driving me nuts!
Oh man, I'm rooting for you! Keep those updates coming when you have some more news!
Good luck! Spotting and (and sometimes even full on bleeding) while pregnant is really scary, but in many cases can be totally normal. I hope you fall in that category!!

So about two weeks ago when I first took my test and found out I was pregnant I had some bleeding pretty light like the first day of a period and it stopped after about 24 hours. I also had some cramping also. I've been reading all this stuff about miscarriages and how the symptoms are bleeding and cramps. I still have some nausea and sore breasts. What do you all think? Am I just freaking myself out or is there a good chance I already miscarried? My appointment is on Friday and I want this baby soooo bad! lol
