Okay, so when my fiance and I were budgeting the wedding (months ago), and he told me he figured we would spend no more than $2,000 on ALL the flowers. When I told him our Wedding Party flowers would most likely be around $800 alone, he nearly fainted!
So, I came up with the idea to have our favors serve as centerpieces. We had already decided on doing 2 fortune cookies inside a 3 inch square box. We will then wrap a strip of decorated paper around the box and hold it together with a pretty sticker. They will be stacked in 2 layers ontop of a cake plate in the center of the table. The table number will be in the middle of the plate, sticking up in coordinating paper from a traditional number stand.
We agreed on this months ago. We SHOOK on it (how we finalize ALL our issues LOL), but now I am having second thoughts. I don’t want it to look like we are being cheap, but I just can’t see wasting so much $$$ on flowers. The cake plate we are going to gift to family members (mis mother, my mother, grandparents etc.) after the wedding.
Gaahh!!! I don’t want to lok cheap, but I have NEVER been a big fan of flowers. SO much that I have entertained the idea of using paper for my bouquet and all the bouts, but I think my grandma would just die if we didn’t involve SOME sense of tradition in the wedding!
Help, bees! If you came to my wedding what would you think?

We used cake stands with the cupcakes on them as our centerpieces. So I think favors as centerpieces is great too.

I’ve seen lots of centerpieces that doubled as favors. My favorite centerpiece that I was going to do, but since I’m outside, was afraid of bees, was a cupcake centerpiece. I am sure you could come up with a cutesy way to do it.
I’d add a little more to the table, scattered petals, candles, something to take up space and add color.

@LovelyLaura: I Looked through a previous post of yours. Are you doing the rectangular tables? I think a cake stand in the middle of the rectangular table may be a bit sparse. If you are using rectangular tables perhaps rather put each box if front of the place setting and place votives in between them and perhaps sprinkle some petals like @AJester2: suggested.

Thanks for the replies! As for the rectangular tables, we completely nixed the idea. We will be going with round tables, mostly for the reason that the favor centerpieces would look weird.
We were thinking about doing votive candles wrapped in the same or at least coordinating paper.
We will also have a sign telling guestas to take a box before they leave, and possibly some pictures of us

Hey now. Save freaking out for big super important things. It’s all important of course, but don’t panic over favors 🙂 I think your idea could be cute and tasteful provided theywade decorated appropriately, not just stacked in the center. Good luck!!

I did all my flowers in silk from hobby lobby for $100 3 on each side plus dads and me… I got ones that seriously look like real roses. We took a picture of the fake and the real next to each other and you couldn’t tell! perhaps this could be a way to save? DIY yourself? also I have found Goodwill to be wonderful in the planning process.

The cost of wedding flowers are ridiculous, I totally support your idea of using favors as centerpieces!
