Help! I’m freaking out about my dress. I don’t know if it’s because I was just looking at pics of a friend who just got married and her dress is BEAUTIFUL, or if it’s because all the pictures I find online of people in my dress are HIDEOUS, or if it’s because I bought it so long ago and haven’t tried it on since December when I was home… or if because my first real fitting is on Saturday, but all of a sudden I’m having serious dress anxiety!! I’m terrified that I won’t like it or look good in it. I kind of really wish I had kept looking but I loved it so much at the time! And now there’s only 2 months and I’m freaking out.. HELP!! Anyone else going through this too!?!? PS I’ll put pics up after the fitting Saturday.

I say, deep breath – and your dress will be fine! I had the same fears after I went home and googled my dress online. I could only find it on the desinger’s website…and let me just say, if I had seen that pictures on the hang tag of the dress…I never would have tried it on! The model had some crazy bride of frankenstein hair, a weird pose…and they cut the train funny on the bottom.
I freaked out for 10 weeks until my dress arrived. And when it did, I fell in love all over again!

I had my first fitting last week, and I was way more anxious about my dress the week before it than I had been for the month before that. I think it’s totally normal to be anxious and to wonder what it’s going to look like after so much time!
My advice is to take a deep breath, pour yourself a glass of wine, and try to wait until Saturday. If you’re still anxious AFTER you see your dress, try to figure out what it is you don’t like, whether it can be fixed with this dress or whether you really want to look for something in two months. I’m confident that being anxious is normal, and either way, it will all work out!
Good luck, and I can’t wait to see pics!

Thanks guys… I don’t think I can look for another dress, my parents would KILL me… and the whole theme of the wedding was kind of built around my dress… !! (vintage). Also I guess one of the reasons I’m paranoid is because my seamstress is a family friend because no one would do the alterations bc I didn’t buy it from them (Bought it 6 hrs away at a place that didn’t do alterations!) I mean, she’s really good, has an entire basement of fabrics and sewing machines and made both her daughters dresses (which are beautiful) but I feel like I’d feel better if I was working with someone who would be willing to make changes to the part I don’t like. It’s mostly the sleeve line that I’m not happy with.. I wish it went in farther. I’ll post the pics Saturday.. until then I think I’ll take the wine and deep breaths advice! Thanks ladies!!

I think it’s normal to have "dress stress" right before your first fitting. It’s a very exciting time, but it can also be very emotional. It’s an important decision and since we have SO much time to think about it (and SO many amazing options out there) we’re probably always going to be nervous and second-guess ourselves.
I think your anxiety probably comes from the fact that you haven’t tried the dress on in a while and you’ve forgotten just how amazing you look in it and how wonderful it made you feel! Right? That’s why you bought it! Although I love looking at pictures of brides in gorgeous dresses, it always makes me a little nervous about my dress and almost makes me doubt my decision. But as soon as I look at my dress again, I know it’s right for me. And I’m sure you’re going to feel beautiful and confident in your decision as soon as you put the dress back on!

I think it’s normal to have dress anxiety. But I bet you’re going to fall in love with it all over again! Just remember how much you loved it when you purchased it and trust that instinct that you had. It’s going to be great!
Do you have any pictures? I’d love to see it!

Right now this is the only pic I have , besides random people in it online and it looks really bad in those pics. I’ll post more after Saturday!! Thanks for the reassurance ladies, I’m trying to think positively!!!

It’s a very classic, lovely dress. I think you’ll look like a glamorous hollywood movie star 🙂
Don’t stress… wait until the fitting. I’m sure you’ll fall in love all over again!

thanks guys!! keeping my fingers crossed!!! i guess i just wish now that the neck wasn’t quite as high, or that my shoulders would be shown off more… At the time I thought it was perfect for me bc I get splotchy on my chest when I’m nervous or talking to people I don’t know well, or even drinking sometimes (basically any time my heart rate is increased!) and I was so happy they’d be covered up in it. Now I am just not so sure!!! We’ll see…ahh!!

I love your dress. There are very few dresses available like it.
Thanks for your post. I am also having dress anxiety. I just picked it up. It doesn’t fit great. I get a fitting this Sunday. Grrr…Then I went on the David’s bridal website and everything looks so pretty. I hadn’t seen my dress in a few months and I remember it cuter. Also, I have had a chance to read so many bridal magazines in the last few months that it changes what I think is a great dress. Grrr…
I hate the shoes I bought too and they don’t look good together.
It’s probably anxiety. I talked to my deacon today and he said that I should get my marriage license on August 22 when we see him next. This whole thing felt a little more final. It’s not just a party!!! I love being single too!!! Aaahhh!!!
Sorry to turn your freak out into my freak out. I feel better now.
I love your dress. I have never seen one like it. You’ll look great.

Haha, no worries, I hear you!! I’m the queen of freaking out!! It is VERY real- I tie the knot on August 22nd!! We’ll be freaking out together, from a distance 🙂 I’m sure your dress will look great too and come together nicely. I hear you, for indecisive people like myself, having so long to change my mind about my dress when it’s way too late has been awful. Hopefully I’ll feel better on Saturday. Good luck!
(Oh and if you’re really freaking out, check out http://www.consciousweddings.com- it’s a great site that talks more about marriage than weddings and really helps you to stop freaking out and realize it’s all normal jitters!!)

haha… don’t worry! I went through exactly the same thing. I HATED my dress in pictures of other people that I found online (don’t worry bee’s… I don’t think any of you are wearing my dress ) But then I went through my fittings and now it looks and feels amazing! I think my dress gets a little jealous sometimes with all these other gorgeous dresses out there cause mine is very simple and classic, not frilly at all. I purchases my dress on craigslist a year before I was engaged and it was HUGE on me so I never really got to see what it looked like on me, but after the fittings it fits like a glove and feels amazing and I don’t want to take it off. my wedding is in 16 days and I can’t wait to wear it!!

It’s beautiful! And it looks very customizable as well – you can make it more of a mermaid or less of one, add tulle in the bottom to make it more poofy if it hangs too flat, looks like it could be converted into spaghetti straps too! It’s gorgeous, dont’ worry!

I don’t think you have anything to worry about bc that dress is BEAUTIFUL!! I think you’re going to put it on and remember why you picked it in the first place!
