I feel sick to my stomach. I was going to do my own make up as I’m a bit of a control freak, but then I realised I’m not experienced enough and needed a mua.
So I had my trial yesterday. I’m not very good with saying what I want because I simply don’t know. I just wanted someone to transform me into a beautiful bride. But I did say I wanted winged eyeliner and nice big lashes. That’s exactly what I got but MASSIVE lashes and really thick eyeliner! I look like a drag queen.
She kept saying I need it for the photos, but I’m seriously not convinced. On top of this she’d made my eyes look brown!!! I know that’s supposed to make blue eyes pop but I hate it. Also, the liner was wonky? I’ve come to realise my face isn’t symetrical but my eyes were vastly different.
I loved the skin and lips though.
Not sure what to do? Should I retrial with her and tell her (she came across as pretty catty so I’m a bit scared of her!) or should I just ditch her and try someone new, or should I just buy the foundation she used and do it myself?
I’m so confused bees!
Here are some pics (excuse the arm, I’m holding my hair back!) they’re pretty awful in my opinion and I’m scared I’ll look like a drag queen. I’ve also added a piccie of what I usually look like with make up so you can see the difference.
And finally what I usually look like with makeup on (fairly light)

I must say I prefer the way you usually look with make up. You’re so pretty and fresh faced!
The eyeliner and (false?) lashes seem like way too much for my taste. It looks like your lashes are so heavy you can barely keep your eyes open, especially in the close up pictures.
I think your make up artist should make you feel good and comfortable, definitely not scared. I vote for trying a different one or just investing in some high quality make up and doing your own!

I think that if you’re intimidated by the MUA, you’re just going to feel crappy on your wedding day. I would get another trial somewhere else and find someone you’re comfortable with. You need to be comfortable enough to say if you don’t like something, or even to communicate what it is you DO like/want.

@Jolly81: I’d get a new MUA. It really doesnt look like she has all that much talent for it, and if she intimidates you… Well, thats not really how you want to feel on your wedding day. Find someone who makes you feel comfortable.

Your MUA should listen to you, not tell you what to do! I say ditch her and find a new one. If you look on The Knot and Wedding Wire you can probably find some reviewed in your area.

I think you should get a new MUA. She shouldnt intimidate you.
The make up doesnt look bad to be honest, I like it except for the huge fake lashes but you also should feel comfortable and not intimidated to say how you want yourself to look on the day off.

I don’t see a problem with the makeup other than she needs to use more natural lashes. You already are very beautiful so all that makeup is just to enhance it and not let your face disappear in photos! Also do NOT stress about the eyeliner, I wear a wing almost every day, and I would say MAYBE 3 times a YEAR it comes out “perfect” the rest of the time it is not perfect, but nobody else is inspecting it for perfection but you, so no need to worry, it won’t be noticable in photos or to your guests.

You have to do what makes you comfortable. I think she did a great job and I would only go down a size in the falsies.

I think in this case, youtube is your best friend! Just search, bridal makeup and thousands of videos will pop up!
It sounds like you just want to look like a glowing bride. For eyes, you can use individual lashes which looks much more natural, you can find them pretty much anywhere. Or you could even get rid of your makeup artist and get lash extensions with the money you were going to pay her. Honestly, it’s so simple to do flawless skin and you seem to do it very well by yourself from that picture! And lips is all about finding the shade you want. In my opinion, I’d rather practice and learn how to do my own makeup and have it in my control than a makeup artist who makes me uncomfortable. If you have a MAC or Sephora (any makeup counter/store really) around you, go in and tell them that you might be doing your own makeup for your wedding and they will most certainly help you pick out products you need and do you makeup with each product while showing you the steps.

From your pics the only thing that looks off to me are the lashes being way too much. If this MUA makes up uncomfortable I would just try a different one, even if you had liked the trial.

@Jolly81: I think the makeup looks just right for the pictures, but I see what you mean about the eyelashes up close. They are rather big. If you’re not happy with her services or demeanor you should trial with a different MUA.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the honesty. The pictures actually look a lot better than in the flesh. I agree that if she didn’t make me feel comfortable then she’s not right for the job.
so I’ve been having a bit of a play with my makeup and I’ve decided to DIY it! Brave move, but I thinkni’ll prefer having a bit of control. I’m going to go to my local MAC counter and have a full trial and redeem against the products. I already have quite a bit of the makeup I would need, mostly mac.
i emailed the Mua (the shame, I just couldn’t face phoning!) and told her politely I wanted to dI my own make up and she’s going to send me a list of all the products she used.
this is what I created today using the knowledge/products I currently have and will build on this for the big day and will still have lashes but much smaller! (Sorry the pic is massive!)

You can still do the eyelashes, but choose lighter ones to begin with ! The eyeliner is too heavy on the upper lid, IMO. I don’t know how your MUA did this, but you look more tired with your face done than your natural self, and it shouldn’t be the end result at all !
By DIY, you can save the money you wanted to spend on a MUA to buy quality foundation and products for your day.
