@Jw1724:  a cruise? I live in NY and took a southern Caribbean cruise out of Puerto Rico and it was great. It’s further south so we had amazing weather when we went (February). Plus if you cruise with royal Caribbean there are things to do on the ship for all ages. We went with my parents who are in their 50s and we were all in our mid-20s and we all enjoyed ourselves.

@Jw1724:  Go a week after New Year’s and Disney will be mostly empty.

@Jw1724:  Can you tell me more about you guys. What have you like to do as a family?Hiking? Drinking? Laying by the beach? Love going to museums? What type of budget? Is international okay?

Without know anything about you, I would say any place warm will be crowded and you have to go south to be warm. I was away that week and was wearing a jacket in Florida. It was not beach weather. I would do Playa del Carmen (it was 80 degrees) for the all inclusive beach trip (if you can find a place kid friendly), Austin for a fun town with lots of culture and a more city trip, or a cruise to Bermuda (if you are cruise people). If you give me more info, I will come back with some more ideas

I’d go somewhere warm for sure!

Flordia is great bc there is a lot you can do if you’re older too (and if you aren’t into Disney).

A lot of all-inclusive places have areas of the resort for famlies, and then adults only…you guys could all stay in the same place, but seperate areas.

I am thinking that maybe you mean dec 27 – jan 3 (though  a month long vacation would be extremely awesome!)

I would look at all inclusives and other bigger resorts in the carribean and maybe even mexico. Mexico is usually cheaper (but still only like 3.5 hr flight) but some people are concerned about safety there (not me personally but others). All the food and drink is included and there are things for kids to do so its really convenient. If you want to go on different little excursions (like scuba diving or zip lining in the jungle or golfing) it can be easily arranged

With such varying people in the group – I’d be inclined to some sort of all inclusive resort or cruise. While I know that there needs to be some entertainment for the kiddos, I can’t imaging taking a famiy vacay to Disney just the keep the kids happy. 😉

My aunt/uncle used to do a family vacay for us every year in leu of Christmas presents. We used to do a family ski trip. There were around 20 of us that went (becuase my cousins all brought at least one friend each!!), sometimes more. We’d rent a couple of mountain houses right on the slope and have a blast. I was always the youngest, and it started when I was around 6 – but I’m not sure how great it would be for the 2.5 year old. 😉

Rent a house on the Outer Banks (NC) or somewhere similar?  I’ve never been there but it’s supposed to be amazing!  It’d be nice to be in a house cause you could have a base camp for the kiddos but also be able to set off on your own beach walks, etc too.

@Pollywog:  we did playe del carmen for our mini moon and really liked it as well… the water/beaches were AMAZING but there was stuff to do if you wanted to (ruins, horse back riding, snorkeling/scuba, golf, etc)

@Jw1724:  I’m voting for a cruise/ somewhere in the Caribbean. St Thomas/ St Lucia are really pretty and have great weather that time of year! Lucky you!
