In trying to think of how I can support Haiti in the short term (we're already planning a mission for next winter when it's safer and we can help and not hinder the humanitarian effort underway)... I decided to do "comments for Haiti" on my blog, but can't post about it here... Then, an awesome BEE on her own accord posted about it... and that was denied too....HOWEVER... I have a solution that was already in the works before the 2nd posting :-)

Since I can't share my blog with you, for you to comment and therefore give a free $1 donation... Here's the deal for WB...

Reply to this thread (or PM me) with a letter of support for the Missionaries who will be receiving the donation, and I'll pass on your note of support AND make a donation of $1 in your name. This is actually more like DOUBLE the contribution.... It can be as long or short as you want... just address the message "To the Missionaries in Haiti" and NOT me!

    The Details on the Charity:

The Mission receiving the donation is one I know personally and will name here if granted permission.  They are located in Port-au-Prince and also in a town 50 miles away.  PAP is obviously closed... the Orphanage that just opened 50 miles away is now a sanctuary for those displaced and orphaned from the earthquake.  They received their first orphan in the new orphanage the week before the earthquake.  The plan, was to slowly take on more as they received more financial support, needed items, and missionaries to staff (Seriously, they just finished building the building!).... That is no longer the plan.  They already received a group of 80, mainly women and children from PAP looking for aid.

The details on how you can help:

    Send me a message or reply on this thread containing any of the following, but addressed to the missionaries;

    1) A promise of prayer for the missionaries and the orphanage. Can be anything like offering your prayers during your sunday service/mass this week, this month, etc.... An "Our Father" every day or for a week, A rosary, etc....

    2) A letter (can be a sentence or two... or 20 :-) of support. i.e. Thanks......

    3) Anything else you can think of to say to those who have selflessly given up their life in America to live in Haiti and minister to those most in need.... And have survived one of the worst natural disasters in our lifetime.... and are the age of the avg. bee.

So... write me a note to pass on to the missionaries, and I'll give your messages AND $1 for each bee who does so... If any of you feel like going on a scavenger hunt, I'm sure you'll find a way to find my blog and comment there... but This is hopefully a great compromise that's weddingbee friendly!

    Thanks!

    -KLP

(ps, only one letter/donation per bee... so spread the word and comment as much as you want, but only one counts :-)

    To the Missionaries in Haiti:

What you are doing for the people of Haiti is a true inspiration. I can think of no greater gift than taking in orphans after such a terrible natural disaster. They need all the love and support they can get, especially in these difficult times!

I promise to say a prayer for your missionary and orphanage. Thanks so much for giving up so much to care for the people of Haitie.

    Much love

    Mr. Bee

    To the missionaries in Haiti:

I pray for the work that you can do helping others, and will keep you in my thoughts. Your selflessness and ability to help others in need is admirable and I will do all in my ability to further the cause, too. I pray that you find a way to help heal those in anguish from the loss and suffering despite your limited means.

Thank you so very, very much for the work that you're doing. You are all very blessed and those women and children are in good hands.

    Love and warm wishes,

    Sarah
