Not so unexpected, but my FI reeeeally wants me to wear my hair down. However, I don't want to be a hot sweaty mess, so up it will be!
ETA: what's the nail polish color? I'm still looking for one! :)
My FH has been sort of a groomzilla about EVERYTHING... well actually hes just had an opinion period, which is slightly annoying since its a wedding what is the issue with what color ribbon is on the invitation? anyways, just tell him that you prefer this color and no you are not painting your nails with a french manicure... Ive learned that this is not my wedding but really my families and as much as I fight for what i want it doesnt really matter.. so I say if you want pink nails your FH will get over it... do what you want :)
@redherring: OMG that's a riot! Your post struck a nerve though - I wonder if this will be a conversation I'll have. It would be just like him to say something like that. So funny!
@hilsy85: There is a chance that I may have purchased two colors so far. *ahem* My favorites have been OPI Lucky Lucky Lavender and Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Tea Rose. I sat in Rite Aid for probably 20 minutes painting little spots on my fingernails with every single pink shade I could find (and purple shades for my pedicure). And then, at my hair salon, I tested all of their OPI pink shades. I've been walking around with multiple colors of nail polish for days. I have absolutely no idea why this is the thing I've chosen to obsess over (other than the weather forecast). My fiance also wants my hair down, so my stylist and I figured out how to wear it down for as long as I could stand it, and then put it up when I got too warm.
@eseds: I explained to him that I wanted to do pink because it would be way easier to fix when I inevitably chip it. I own the colors, making touch-ups a breeze. Whereas fixing a French manicure would be a pain.
Ha. Yeah. Whenever I paint my nails a lighter color SO will say, "but they look so nice when you paint them dark!" His favorite colors are red and black. He doesn't like the French Manicure at all. I have no idea what I'm doing for our wedding yet but black is definitely not an option! As for hair....mine's naturally curly and his favorite style is for me to straighten it and wear it down. That happens occasionally, but def. will not happen on our wedding! Sorry babe...
My FI is always strangely interested in my manicure, I tend to wear funky colors greens/blues/greys which he hates. I had to promise him pink for the wedding.
Ugh, Mr. T would never say anything or care- when I ask if he likes my hair short or long, he has no opinion... it's a whooole different kind of frustrating and annoying. I'm a little jealous of your opinionated SOs! ;)
Mine hates really visible colours. So I'm reduced to only using pale pinks and pale beiges.
@artichokey: My hair is also naturally curly, and when I get it cut, I'll sometimes have the stylist straighten it. My fiance always looks fascinated by the straight version, but there's no way in hell I'd do that all the time. When I leave my hair curly, I shower, use curl-enhancing cream, and let it air-dry. The actual "styling" portion takes 30 seconds.
@thimble: I guess the grass really is always greener. Mine remembers everything I wear so he can always tell when I've been shopping. SUPER annoying.
I highly doubt my FI would even notice my nails! It's both hilarious and just a little sad that yours is so emotionally attached to your nail colour. It's kind of sweet, really.
My FI wants me to cut off all my hair, which is now past my shoulders and down to just above my breasts. When we met four years ago I had short hair, like up around my ears short. He wants me to surprise cut off a good two feet of hair after I've spent two years growing it out. I'm sorry, but that's just not going to happen.
LOL FH's are so funny sometimes!
Mine likes french's too which i never normally get.
Jury's still out for my nails -- it'll probably be just a pale pink. I hope my FH doesn't care about my nails. Chances are, he might. He's an easy going groom for the most part and then suddenly there's something he gets passionate about that seems really odd for me. But when he expresses a preference, I just roll with it.
My mother freaked out when I told her I wasn't getting acrylics or having a design done on my nails. It was kind of funny. Mr. E couldn't possibly care less though. He says if I do what I want with my hair and dress and all that I'll be beautiful.
The only thing my husband cares about beauty wise is that I DONT wear nail polish. The only way he likes my nails is with nothing on them or a french manicure. I cant remember the last time I had color on my nails because he doesnt like it!
I am jealous about those whose SOs have opinion about hair though. Before the wedding I kept asking whether he liked my hair up or down better and he just said he liked me however and willl think I look beautiful no matter what. That did not help in my hair deciding whatsoever!!!
@redherring: LOL, my FI LOVES french manicures too. and i'm sure he def expects that's what i'll get for the wedding... i haven't had a good manicure in months, im excited!
My FI says he gets "sick" when he looks down and sees that my toes aren't painted! But, he's not so into the french look on my toes. I've noticed that guys are weird with girl's feet...it's fine if they don't do theirs and not fine if we don't do ours.
My FH has an opinion about everything. In the end he always tells me to just do what makes me happy, but I know I can count on him to have a preference, lol!
Dh would be disgusted if I came home with some long fake nails - he thinks they're awful. I had a nice simple manicure for our wedding and told him he'd have to deal and it wasn't that bad.
my fiancee wants me to have a french manicure, he's very involved and even has the wedding planned out in his head, down to the color of the linens and handkerchiefs, i'm not complaining, his attention to detail is way better than mine. it truly is OUR wedding.
What if you used the color you want on your nail bed then white tips? You both get what you want that way, and you can get white polish somewhere so if you chip a nail you can fix it yourself.
My FI loves pink and red nails in any shade, and he loves it when I try new colors within those shades. He's only seen me in a french manicure once, and he did think it was elegant and sophisticated, and extra special. I suspect that men just associate it with more formal occasions / elegance. That's probbly the only reason he was disappointed that you didn't get french. I'm sure your pale pink is gorgeous though!!

I mentioned to my fiance that I had finally found the perfect shade of pale pink for my manicure. He look at me, crestfallen, and said, "You're not going to get a French manicure?" Um, really? He's sad about the type of manicure I've chosen? Really?
Has anyone else's fiance expressed a preference about something unexpected?
