Do you think French pedicures are chic or ridiculous? I love them, but all my friends hate them. I've also noticed a few websites that call them tacky. So now I want to know what the Bees think!!
Does anyone get French pedis? I don't usually, but that is my plan for the next time I go to the salon!
I do my own at home sometimes. I wouldn't really call it a trend, it's been popular/common for as long as I can remember.
Ooh, I don't like to be the first to disagree, but I think they look like you need to trim your toenails. I don't think I'd think less of a person who has one -- still beats actually needing to trim your nails!!
I find it looks funny on my toes since my baby toenail is almost non-existant...
I think it depends on where you live. In NYC, I wouldn't be caught dead with one. But in upstate NY, where my sister lives, they are all the rage.
Also, they remind me of acrylic toenails, which I think is what puts me off of them.
Interesting. I never knew this was up for debate! I thought "French" was just the way to go. I'm curious to see others' responses!
I'm not crazy about the look, mainly like someone else said, they look fake to me.
oh wait, i voted "eh" but i didn't realize you meant just PEDIs - Definite no. They look like you have big fake acrylics on your toes..
I like how they look and I agree with august15bride, I thought that was the "way to go!"
I am not crazy about them b/c as mary-alice-me said it looks like your toe nails are to long and to be completely honest a lot of the people I see with them they ACTUALLY do need to cut their toe-nails!
I prefer colour on the toes and natural or french finger nails personally!
I can't stand acrylic nails, but love getting french pedis. I didn't realize that it was an issue in some areas. I've never even heard about it being tacky. Well, at least I know not to go to NYC with a french!
I love color and I am very uptight about the upkeep of my toes, I know its weird but I think you should spend the same time grooming your feet the way you do everything else. However, I never did the french thing till my wedding at the urging of sister and MIL. Well I hated it from the get go. Just looked weird to me and it does make my nails look longer than they are. Just prefer color. I, personally, dont give a crap about trends or where people would not be caught dead with something. I am sure they do things I would not be caught dead doing. If you like it go for it!
I think sometimes (when the white line is thin and the pink is not too pink) they look good. I have to agree though, the majority of the time it looks like some nail clippers are in order.
Haha, I'm in NYC and I get french mani/pedi's all the time. I think they look classic and clean.
Star & Bree: I think it's maybe because some people in the city actually get acrylic toenails and they tend to be french manicured. I think that's what it makes me think of whenever I see them!
I didn't know they were such a topic and tabbo thing up North! Here in the South it is really common. I prefer the French look because it lasts a heck of a lot longer then the color does. At least it does on my toes. What I really hate is the colored tips like a sparkle blue or green. With the base natural. It just looks like a fungus. LOL
I've never heard anyone call them tacky. I usually think they look cool, but personally, I prefer darker colors on my toes. For my wedding, I did a sheer champagne color instead of doing the French. I actually wanted to do a bright color, but my mom flipped out about it, so at the last minute, I decided to do that instead. It was kind of dumb, though, because no one saw my feet and I totally redid my pedicure the following day. I wanted to have something cute and bright for my mini-moon.
Honestly, I prefer just natural nails. A mani or pedi with just a clear coat on top. French manicures always look really weird and fake to me, but I don't know why. Maybe because I don't see them very often? Most of what I've noticed around here is either natural or colored polish/colored polish with designs.
I prefer just to have a bright color on my toes.
French pedi's aren't very common here either anymore, they were a few years back. I have a thing with long toenails, as in they gross me out, and for some reason french pedicures make toenails look way too long. *shudder*
I don't like them at all. Have you ever seen a porn? They almost always have french manicures. I think that was where I really decided I didn't like them. I prefer one color!
They remind me of something a stripper would do. I hate them. I don't mind French manicures as much, but I don't really like those either. I was shocked the first time I ever saw a French pedicure. And not in a "oh I want one of those" way.
I've never really been a French manicure or pedicure fan. I love color, especially on my toes. But I don't think it's tacky-just not my style.
Strangely I think a French pedicure is cute, but a French manicure is just "okay." For the manicure I prefer American manicure over the French :)
I think it's ok on the toes except if you do the acrylic nails on toes.... that's just weird.
Weird. I never thought too much about Fench manicures or pedicures. I think they are cute and classy and definitely not a trend. I've been getting them for years! But, I am from TX so maybe it's a southern thing! I saw them ALL the time in TX!
I like french pedicures... As long as they arent white. Love the Red tip pink coat.
Call me weird!!! But I love it!!!
I like bright colors on the toes. But on the hands? Always a French.
Tacky? I've never heard of that. I thought it was the standard, other than natural/clear. :) I am so behind the times, apparently!
I don't like French manicures or pedicures. I don't get why you would wanna accentuate the "white part" of your nail?? It's so strange-looking to me... just my opinion though. And I think it's a regional thing too. There are parts of LA where I see LOTS of fake acrylic French manicures, and other parts where au natural is all the rave. LA is weird like that though.
I hate how they look and I refuse to wear one. Looking at them on other people gives me the impression that they haven't trimmed their toenails recently and really need it done. I went to beauty school for awhile and learned how to do these and not only are they hell to do but they are really not that attractive. I feel the same way about French manicures but not so much that they are in dire need of a trim, but I don't understand why anyone wants the free edge to be glowing white (or random color of your choice while the nail bed is left natural), but that's just me. Interestingly, when a French pedicure is done, the white polish is placed on the nail bed which is what you don't want to cut becuase it causes unnecessary pain and will create damage to the nail itself. Personally, I'd rather go plain with no polish or solid color polish on the entire nail. The current trend however is a colored free edge with a natural nail bed which looks odd and teenybopperish (yet you don't see it on any of them) to say the least. But to each their own.
I love how my toes look when painted that way, for my fingers I just do clear nail polish since I'm tough on nail polish and the maintenance is just too much work for me.
I used to love them for years, got the home kit and all...but now I'm over the phase. I'm into a pinkish brown that looks very finished, natural....well, polished is the word I'm looking for.
I picked out my wedding polish already b/c I bite my nails but wanted to do something special but not draw attention.
Not really my style, likes some previous posters, I feel like it sometimes looks like you need to cut your toenails. But it looks good on some people - to each her own!
I voted yes and after reading the comments I feel like the girl in the scrunchie from the SATC episode where Carrie and Berger are arguing about it being outdated and 80's. lol, anyone know what I'm talking about?
I often get french manicures and pedicures, I personally think it's a clean look and as someone else stated, it lasts longer- on me at least anyway. I have really small fingernails (not really short but, the whole nail is just small) so the full color on my fingernails looks strange to me. A couple of people said "I don't know why people would want to accentuate the white part of their nail", I think others like myself think it makes for a clean look.....just like others could say "Why would you want to paint your whole nail a color that it's not even supposed to be?" I personally like both looks but, do favor the French manicure. Whatever floats your boat.
I like colors on toes and then nails clipped short and french or light clear pink
Wow. This is really controversial! Who knew? ;)
I'd never heard of acrylic toenails before tonight ... it came up in a convo with Mr. Bunny's aunt, who is here in town. IMO that's really weird.
As far as a french pedi, I'm not sure how I feel about that. I don't usually wear polish on my toes or my fingers, but prefer a natural look -- either neutral color (toes) or french -- whenever I do.
