@smarie13:  What’s your budget? And do you plan to go in July or another time?

ETA: I ask because these places differ dramatically in the cost of flights to get there. Personally, I’d rather maximize my budget by going to the place that is the cheapest to get to, unless you decide on place that incredibly affordable once you are there for the other big parts of the budget, like accommodations.

If you’re going in Juy I’d go Greece hands-down!

@smarie13:  Greek islands for sure, I went a few years ago for my cousin’s wedding and it is amazing. The people, the culture, the food, oh and the beaches are perfect. I have been to Costa Rica too and it’s definitely more primitive than Greece. However, when I was in Costa Rica I stayed at an Eco hotel and was on a surf trip with friends so my trip to Greece was just nicer in terms of the places we stayed and ate at. They are all good options though!

@smarie13: I’d also consider when the peak tourist seasons in each of these places are. The peak of couse is when prices are highest, the most people are visiting, but generally, the weather is the best. Peak season for the Greek Islands is April to October with July/August being busiest, for Costa Rica its dryer season is November – April, for Moorea its May – October with July being a peak month.

@smarie13:  Those are three drastically different places.  I think the first question you should ask yourself is what you want your honeymoon to be.

For example if you’re getting married in the summer the Greek Islands are going to be absolutely jampacked with people. I was there in July a few years ago & the islands were stupidly packed with people.  Loads of people from cruise ships are dumped off there and there’s more 18 year old drunk Aussie backpackers than you can possibly comprehend.  The islands are beautiful, stunning & something everyone should see, but it probably won’t be relaxing or secluded.

If you want relaxing & you have a lot of time, I’d go with French Polynesia so long as you’re okay with spending that long on a plane.

I’m partial to Costa Rica.  It’s one of my favorite places, and I think it’s the right combination of relaxing yet still has lots of things to do if you’re looking for activities, plus you don’t have to spend nearly an entire day flying there and back so you get more bang for your buck.

@smarie13:  Greek islands, for sure! They’re absolutely stunning, plus you’ll love being immersed in Greek culture, eating Greek food, etc. Super romantic honeymoon destination!

French Polynesia.  As much as I want to go to Greece, being in Greece in the hottest most crowded time of the year does not interest me in the least.

We just came back from Moorea. Stayed at the Hilton for 5 days. It depends on when you go, if it’s off-season know that it’s quite hot and you have a chance to see a week of rain. Also depends on what you want to do during your honeymoon, Moorea is mostly snorkeling and scuba, there’s not much to see or do on the actual island.

as pp have mentioned, timing is crucial. my dad lives in costa rica so i visit quite frequently. i once was there and it POURED the entire month of june. it was honestly depressing because it wasn’t the normal afternoon shower. i LOVE costa rica but if it’s white sand beaches and crystal clear water, you won’t get it there. if you want to just lay poolside or on a beach, costa rica isn’t the best destination for you… it’s great if you want to be active and do lots of activities like hike, zipline, white water raft, that kind of thing. if you wanna do a bit of sightseeing while mostly relaxing, greek islands would be my preference for you. i looooved the greek islands but i went in the fall when there weren’t a lot of tourists and the temperatures were pretty great for a canadian. never been to moorea but if i had the money, that’s where i’d go 🙂

@smarie13:  I voted French Polynesia because that is where I am taking my honeymoon. FI and I are staying 6 nights in Bora Bora at the Intercontinental Thallaso Spa in an overwater bungalow. Then moving to the Hilton in Morrea for 4 days.

@smarie13:  not sure if you are looking to going to bora bora as well. there’s no sense in just visiting just moorea for a week, you’ll get bored. it’s best to split the two islands or visit any of the other neighboring islands. hilton was nice, very small though and very isolated, cab rides are approximately $60-$80 round trip to any other place on the island.
