Hi Ladies!!! I’m having a Friday evening reception in September (besides being almost $5k cheaper; the venue I wanted was all booked for Saturdays). My dilemia now is to have a traditional church service or to get married in the garden at the same location as the reception. I kind of always envisioned getting married in a church but it might be easier for our guests to have it all in one spot since it is on Friday. Any thoughts or suggestions?

How close is the church to the reception venue? And – do you have a lot of OOT guests or will most people be coming from nearby? I think those things play into your decision making. I’m not sure what church you are from – but it is possible to do a religious service in the garden? That might be a good compromise if having a religious ceremony is important for you.

I agree it would be easier for guests if the ceremony and reception were in the same location. So I vote for the garden ceremony, unless you have religious reasons for wanting to have it in the church.

Do you have religious reasons for wanting it to be in the church or is it just a “oh, it’s pretty!” idea? How far away is the church from the reception area? Our venue will probably be 14 miles away from the chapel we’re getting married in, but… it was the prettiest option and I’m SO in love with it.

Having it at the reception location would definitely be easier if you don’t have strong ties to a specific church.

We are having our ceremony and reception at the same location for our Friday wedding. This will make it a bit easier for our guests-especially the out of towners!

thanks for all the input ladies!! I didn’t realize that I don’t get notified on responses so I wasn’t checking back.
The church is about 17 miles away and its the one I grew up… I don’t necessarily have to have the ceremony there I just always thought that is what you do…. I’m still going to have my Paster perform the marriage so I think it will be good.
