@LindsayMaree:  If I’m local I wouldn’t think anything of it. If I’m not it might affect my decision to attend, but that depends on if I have kids, what my job is, whether I can get time off, how much travel is involved, and many many other factors.

If I’m local, I would attend, OOT then probably not. A lot of people party of Friday nights, so I don’t think it’s that big of a deal.

@LindsayMaree:  If I’m only 3 hours away and the kids can come, I would probably drive and be  an hour late or just leave work an hour or two early.

I don’t think it’s a huge deal, and I think it’s better than having it on a Sunday (especially if you guys like lots of drinking and dancing,) but it can be a pain. I think 7pm is a late enough start time to avoid some traffic so it shouldn’t be a problem!

Well, I voted maybe… BUT just rememebreed, even though Friday is a typical workday, the next morning will be saturday…. so we could sleep in, so it dosn’t matter how long we stayed out to party!I wish I could change my vote to YES!

We’ve attended a couple OOT Friday evening weddings; not a big deal to us.

Everyone loves to go out on Friday. Local or not is a non-issue. However, be aware that some people will be offended since you are not having the reception on the same day as the ceremony.

My wedding and reception were on a Friday evening of a holiday weekend.  All of my guests traveled at least an hour and a half to three hours to attend, and many others traveled from states far away.  I think your plan to have your party on a Friday evening is perfectly fine. 🙂

I don’t think Friday is a big deal if most of your guests are local. FI and I have a Friday night wedding this summer, and it’s about 2 hours away.  The only reason it’s a PITA is that it starts at 5, which is around the time most people get done work (us included).  So we’re going to have to take half-days to make it to the ceremony on time, and even that is pushing it.  I think 7 is a way better start time (I’d even consider pushing it to 7:30 or 8, although since there’s no ceremony first if people are a little late I guess it’s not the end of the world, right?).

Where having a Friday wedding and pretty much everyone is from out of town so they have to take a few days off work anyways (we are 1300km or more away from our guests). Also our friends work in tourism so they can get the Saturday off so friday is better in our books.

@Ember78:  She is calling it a “we just got married party” NOT a reception so its fine.
