- Wedding: January 2012
I just got an email from one of my good high school friends that she unfortunately won’t be able to make it to the wedding (she lives in Boston), but she’d love to get together for drinks to have our own little celebration when she’s home for the holidays in the next couple weeks. I didn’t really think she’d be able to come because of the distance, but I was really hoping that she would be there to share the day and so that I could finally meet her boyfriend.
We were very close our senior year of high school (she moved to Texas from Hawaii the summer before, so I didn’t know her previously), and though we don’t talk often, we try to catch up whenever she’s in town, and it’s always like we’ve lost no time at all. I was hoping SO BADLY that she would be there for the wedding. She was one of the first people I went to when Fiance and I broke up after high school, and she was one of the first to congratulate me when we got back together. She was also the first of my friends to see the ring. Fiance and I have already gotten plenty of declines to the wedding, but this is the first one that’s really hit me, I guess. 🙁
I just wanted to mope for a moment. Fiance just found out yesterday that neither set of his grandparents is going to be at the wedding, and it’s really upset him. I feel bad whining to him that my friend can’t make it when he’s dealing with the absence of his grandparents. I knew you ladies would be able to commiserate, though, so here I am.
I emailed her back and said we should definitely meet up, and I’m really glad we’re going to do that. It’s the best thing, under the circumstances. I’m just a little sad.
