I’m not a hairstylist, but I don’t think the red dye in box dyes has any ‘lift’ to it, so it might not lighten your hair. You may just end up with more vibrant red, but not necessarily the look you’re going for in the model’s picture. I think to achieve that color you’d need to lighten your current color then try to deposit the red… again, not a cosmotologist.

Some red dyes do contain lighteners. I know the Live XL colours lighten but not sure you have those where you are??

I went bright red a few years ago from dark brown and it worked well.

Mrslovebug:  I wouldn’t deep condition between adding the dye. The bleach is going to damage your hair, but it’s also going to make it soak up more dye. If you deep condition you run the chance of coating your hair strands with whatever chemical/polymer the conditioner contains and it will make the dye less penetrable. I always go straight from bleach to color and have good results, but I dye my hair purple…

Mrslovebug:  I put a few peekaboos in for funsies. My boss doesn’t like it when I show up with all purple hair, lol. Womp

Mrslovebug:  From a fellow cheapskate and a boxed hair girl, I would HIGHLY recommend going and getting it glazed professionally before your wedding.  You don’t have to go to someplace fancy, I had a very good job done for $30 or so at Fantastic Sams.  It’s worth it!!
