I absolutely wanted a gap between my engagement ring and wedding band. I find it gives a vintage elegance, and allows the two rings to stand out. I initially went for a 1ctw eternity band in white gold. Here were the problems I encountered after wearing it for 2 months:
1- The prongs on the underside got quite worn off, and needed re-tipping. (The band was soldered to my e-ring.)
2- The prongs on the other side were turning yellow, since they were white gold.
3- The eternity band stuck out more than my e-ring on the side. It gave an unbalanced look and was quite uncomfortable.
4-The stones in the band were so large, they took away from the delicate shiny platinum shank on my e-ring.
5-The band was tilted and didn’t sit flat on my finger. With the tilt, the stones faced a different direction from the stones in my e-ring.
So I talked to my Darling Husband about changing my wedding band, and he was fine with it. I paid for the new band 😉 (we had paid for the eternity band half and half) My jeweler allowed me to return the eternity band and pay the difference for a custom countour band. I had many specifications, and it came out amazing!!!
1-My set still has the gap I love!
2-The gallery setting rises with the profile of my e-ring, so they have the same height.
3-The stones are slightly smaller, which looks better with my e-ring.
4-The diamonds cover the top only, so the ring is extremely comfortable between my fingers and underneath my hand.
5- The ring is made of platinum, so it won’t yellow 😉
Here is my beauty!!! It was expensive but totally worth it!!
