Have to make a decision rather quickly if we want to have a photobooth (a for real one, where everyone crams into a booth, curtain change, etc. It’s really cool. :)). Our wedding/reception will be on a Saturday morning for five hours. There will be an open bar (the entire time) and a dj. Part of me says a photo booth will be cool because who doesn’t like taking pictures? Another part of me will wonder if it may keep people from dancing and it could be money saved. Oh, also it’s for 3 hrs.
Thoughts? Would this be something guests enjoy/appreciate? Has it already jumped the shark?

I’m just going to put it out there… everyone LOVES a photobooth! You should get a copy of fun pictures and they also get to take a copy home. It’s a great momento. I’d highly recommend it 🙂

I have never liked the photo booth thing. I would be very unlikely to use it unless someone dragged me into it. That said, it really depends on your guest list. I could name 20 people on our 300 person guest list that would use a photo booth for appropriate pictures, so it’s not worth it to me.

I love the photobooth. Being able to take home the little strip of photos is the BEST FAVOR for your guests!
We’re having a really small wedding where almost everyone is over the age of 50. So only about 10 people would really be using the photobooth and having a good time with it. Not worth it in our case. but as a guest I love them!

@Xu: haha I hope they’re not too passe, we’re having one in March. I have started to see some other “options” at weddings like a cariacture artist (took FOREVER and was hogged by a few guests), flip books (many photos of you acting something out glued together so you can flip it quickly looks like a mini-video) and a polaroid for taking shots of yourself at the wedding and adding them to the guest book. Honestly, most of them were cool in theory but difficult in execution. Personally I like the idea of the couple having fun pictures of their friends, and it’s a nice momento for the guests.

I still think they’re fun. Especially with stupid props 🙂

@Xu: I’ve only been to weddings with a DIY photo booth, but our work actually has a holiday party each year and they host a real photo booth. In addition to the fun photo strips, every “guest” gets a plastic frame and magnet to put their strip in. You can kill two birds with one stone and have that count as a favor (one magnet frame per guest). Also, if there is boozing, people will definitely be using the photo booth!

We had one at our wedding in september. every guest we have spoken to since the wedding has said how much they loved it. the photos appeared on facebook, in emails, on fridge doors……all our guests loved it, and the dance floor was full the whole time. You can only fit 4 people in a photobooth (well….unless the bouncers are not watching) so everyone else is dancing.

I defintiely want to do one! I’ve found a few for really reasonable on groupon. My cousin got married in Sept 2012 and she says that the book from the photobooth is one of her favorite things from the wedding. It’s hilarious because the front of the book is people all nicely put together with lovely smiling faces, and as the night went on the photos got progressively.. um.. drunker, and hilarity ensued. I just have to figure out where the heck to put it in my space.

I’ve always loved going to weddings with photobooths. I hope we have enough budget left over to have one for our guests!

Fun. Always fun. This is like asking if fun or dancing at receptions has jumped the shark!

I think photobooths are always fun. Sure, they’ve been around awhile now, but everyone seems to enjoy them.
