I'm sorry. :-( That is very frustrating. We're having about 30-40 guests and we've had the same problem. I've been calling places for three months, and no where quoted me less than $1800 just for the event room rental (restaraunts), but I was finally able to find a nice art deco place that is going to let me do our whole ceremony and reception, including the food, tables, chairs, linens, dance floor, centerpieces, candles, for $1100. Thanks to another bee, actually.
Just don't lose hope, it isn't impossible. Just keep calling and everything will fall into place!
Wow, that's great.
My dream place I went to go look at and got a quote of almost 4k for the whole night. My budget is 5k for the whole wedding :(
i'm sorry! don't give up, the venue search is HARD. can you do a search on metromix and hit the streets with your finds?
Thanks Aliceinweddingland...I've never heard of Metromix...I'll take a look at the site now
Yeah, my dream place quoted me 3k, unfortunately, and my budget was 4k. But I'm really happy with the venue we ended up with. :-)
Have you tried http://www.uniquevenues.com/?
We had a difficult time too. The venue search is the worst (IMO way worse then the guest list). It honestly has caused me the most amount of stress, so I totally get where you are coming from.
Have you looked at non-traditional places? I found that things cost a lot less when I went to places where weddings weren't their bread and butter.
Keep plugging away at it; you'll find something great.
OMG GIRL! YOU SOUND EXACTLY, EXACTLY LIKE ME!!! That is our problem!!! We have been searching and considering places since Sept. and it's sooo hard with a small guest list!! We're only having about 20 guests too! However I'm finally relaxing a little and starting to think outside the box and going with places that are pretty but that I might not have ever considered before. We want our wedding to be in November (the first weekend) so we NEED to pick a place soon. I don't live where you do but I wish you good luck!! Keep your head up and don't worry, you WILL find a place!
You will find it...don't worry! And when you do, it will be perfect. Don't panic, just keep looking. Your dream wedding venue is still out there!!!
Thanks everyone...but I want the venue I found :( My FI and I are thinking we should just go over budget even though we can't really afford it. But I don't know if this is a good idea :(
would it be possible to do decorations, outfits and music for under 1k to make the place fit your budget? if you don't want to scrap everything just to make the dream place work then maybe it's not really worth it?
Hi Aliceinweddingland...its not possible.
There won't be music (beisdes an ipod) so that's fine. I already have my dress (500). So I basically would have 500 for everything - catholic church fee, photography, flowers, etc, etc, now you see why this is impossible!
Would putting 3k on a credit line be a horrible idea?
Have you tried calling a few nice restuarants for a private dinner party for 20 and NOT mentioning it is a wedding? I would call it a "family gathering" and see if the price magically changes.
It's a little sneaky, but it might land you a better deal. You can come clean and tell them it's for a wedding after the contract has been signed.
Good luck!
Hi, I'm North of Boston as well. What exactly are you looking for, maybe I can help with some ideas. I know you have 20 people but what area are you looking and what kind of ambiance are you looking for?
If you want some more options, you can try looking through the private room listings on Opentable (this should be a link to the Boson page: http://www.opentable.com/info/banquets.aspx?m=7).
$4000 for 20 people is $200 per head, which is pretty pricy. The place may be worth it, but you should be able to find something very nice for half that price or less.
Hi PizzutiStudios...
I don't know...I want something different - I'm not looking for a frouffy frouffy place that is intimidating for my family. I want somewhere visually pretty and a little funky, but not crazy. I want it to be a nice atmosphere, casual yet elegant, somewhere where my spanish family will not feel like they are uncomfortable. I say this with all honesty as my family is not used to going to "nice" places. The place I want (mentioned above) is VERY NICE, but at least I feel like the people there are friendly and stuff.
I hope you know what I mean.
Thanks fro the site, historienne..I'll check it out.
Find our reception venue was the hardest part of our wedding planning, so far.
We found the place of our dreams, and ended up turning it down. We chose a place we didn't love as much, that included all rentals, etc.
Historienne...I have to say THANK YOU again. The site you provided is SOOO helpful. I have looked through and contacted 2 restaurants to get estimates. *crosses fingers*
luli29 4000 seems really high for 20 people unless you are planning a 10 course french style dinner! keep us posted!
oh just remembered that Les Zygomytes as a private room that hold up to 30 people and its beautiful! Give them a call! http://winebar.com/weddings.html
Great downtown location for pictures and the like!

I'm so frustrated that my wedding is in October and I cannot figure out where we want to have our wedding dinner. It sucks being on a tight budget, even though our guest list is only 20 people!
I can't move on with picking colors, gettting a photographer, anything, until I know where we're having our dinner and how much we're spending.
Its just hard to find a nice restaurant that holds private events for that little amount of people in our budget :(
All I have is the church and the dress. That's it!
