@buslam69:  Metformin is probably fine on it’s own – I think they give it to people who are TTC? Am pretty sure that it can be given without the pill – I had a friend who tried it for a bit while TTC. I’ve also read that a Paleo/low-carb diet can help tons, so you might want to look into that. Hang in there!

It sounds like you need to see another doctor!  My wife was recently diagnosed with PCOS and I’ve found the website to be very informative!  You absolutely do not need to be on BC pills to be on Metformin.  Metformin is used to help your body use the sugars in your blood.  It’s what is used if you have IR (Insulin Resistance)  I would def talk to another doctor!  Don’t let them bulldoze you because they don’t want to deal with a patient that might actually know something about her own body!  Be your own advocate for sure!  Good luck!

ETA:  We’re doing a no grain diet to try and lose weight.  Losing weight also helps with insulin resistance and balancing your hormones.  PCOS is no joke!  It can lead to a whole host of health problems including, Diabetes and heart disease.  It cannot be cured only managed.
