Are any of you able to help me out with either stores / suggested brands or inspiration photos of fuller figured bridesmaid dresses? I want my darling BM to feel comfortable and not necessarily have to go into a “bigger” ladies shop when we go BM dress shopping (sorry I do not know her exact size). I’m thinking her and I just go on our own to start…I can visit either Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.

@Charbelle: I guess it’s hard to say without knowing what kind of style you might be looking for, but my immediate thought would be Forever New. I know a lot of brides who source their bridesmaids dresses from there. I know they stock a wide range of sizes?

If you’re in Sydney try BridesmaidsOnly in Double Bay. We went there and they have a really good selection, and most dresses they have a size 16+ sample of. i ended up getting mine from Review (they go up to a 16 in a lot of styles now) because my rides maids were being turds and wouldn’t agree on any styles.
Forever new has nice dresses in now as well!

@Mogs: Thanks so much, yes I like Forever New, they have some really lovely things! Style wise I’m thinking a full length grecian style perhaps? Like a formal flattering maxi-dress (?) not sure if that makes sense! I haven’t started looking actively with my two BM’s yet as I want to hear what they would be comfortable in as well.
@Bearimbolo: Review is a great suggestion too, I will check out bridesmaidsonly too – much appreciated. Thank you.

@Charbelle: I remembered seeing these gorgeous Grecian style maxis in one of my wedding magazines, pretty sure they were by Mr K so I did a quick google search and saw they do a ton of this sort of style: http://www.mrk.com.au/og.html
Looks like they have stockists pretty much everywhere as well 🙂

I’m a big girl & I’ve been a bridesmaid twice – one dress was Alfred Angelo & the other was a Mr K. I also tried on Allure & Bari Jay dresses when looking at wedding dresses (my dress is actually an altered bridesmaid dress).

Natasha Millani. Now I’ve had a mixed bag with their customer service (read some padt posts of mine for more info on that) but as long as your order five months out you should be fine. They go up to Size 22, although their sizing is a little strange in the waist per their measurements but fitted her fine. Great quality and range of styles & colours!
Sorry but I’m on my phone so photo goes first 🙁 the girls are actually getting this with straps (Isabella) in midnight. We were able to order these for them to try on, (what they had in stock in the sizes we needed) then send them back and order their actual dresses. Was great because it saved a shopping trip! Message me if you want more info!

Just an update… I had it wrong, they go up to 24. cant be bothered editing & having to sort out the line breaks 😉 In the photo above B, in blue, is wearing a 14 and A, in coral, is wearing 20.
They’re Sydney based & opening their first showroom there soon I think…bit as I said we saved hassle by the girls measuring themselves & me ordering the dresses on a trial basis (although you do have to pay up front). The measurements on their site can’t be too bad though because they fit each of them perfectly!

@Charbelle: Try to find a shop that sells Sophia Tolli… There is one in Brisbane, it looks like (called Sassiz?).. And maybe some of these other locations are near (sorry I am not familiar with Australia!!)… her dealers are listed here. Her “Special occasions” dresses make gorgeous bridesmaid dresses!!
None of my girls are very plus-sized, but I am (US size 14), and I tried on one of her special occasion dresses, and it was lovely! Sorry I do not have a picture of myself in one, but here are my girls in the dress they picked:
Sophia Tolli specializes in corset-backs, which are awesome for bigger ladies, and her ruching styles are beautiful (also very flattering!!).
I LOVE this picture of myself and my girls showing off our corset-backs:
Her dresses are SO well made, with strong supportive boning throughout the bodice to hold everything in place – only one of my girls wore a bra (and it was merely to “fill in” the dress because she had a smaller chest).
I can’t recommend her dresses enough!! 😀

@Mogs: Oh wow – that is SO helpful. Thanks very much.
@mcgoo: Just googled Alfred Angelo, really great suggestion and have found a store close to me. Thank you kindly!
@goingtotherooftopoflove: Thank you!! Will def PM you if I need some further information. Oh my gosh their beautiful smiles make me smile!!!
@lovelove1028: Thank you so much for this information and your comments about how happy you were with the quality is really helpful! Checking it out now! 🙂

@Charbelle: I know, right? I think they were super relieved we didn’t have to go out shopping!!! Haha. A (in coral) is my maid of honour & was over from NZ for a very short time. I only made the decision to order the dresses at late notice but so glad I did because it simplified the entire process. They are going to look awesome and they are such amazing, supportive & helpful bridesmaids! I’m a lucky girl to have them 🙂
