I've been reading thru some recent posts and feeling a little lost, I'm not on the baby bandwagon nor am I on the anti-baby. We're still undecided…
So, here's a fun post!
For our first year of marriage we are planning…
A trip to Florida in April to visit the Inlaws, my grandma and some family that weren't able to make it to the wedding. We're psyched to swim, lounge by the pool and maybe play some tennis.
For his birthday in May, (and our 6 month anniversary) I'm planning a trip to D.C. There is the evolution of video games at the Smithsonian and since he's never been we'll see the monuments as well. We'll also meet up with a friend in Baltimore.
Summer is about apartment hunting, we will find our new home in a pet friendly building. After we move in September, we get to start looking for a fur baby that barks.
What are you planning this year?
Awesome thread! On the agenda so far we have:
Bought a treadmil and still putting it to great use :)
A trip to Memphis & Mississippi (next weekend actually) to celebrate my great grandmothers 100th birthday!
Our winter vacation trip to Ireland for 7 days in March
We will be doing some more painting in our house in the Spring (our bedroom, and dining room ceiling to be exact.)
This summer we are undecided on where we want to go for our summer vacation but it is either Brazil or India!
And we can't wait till the fall because that means football & cooler weather after our brutal Texas summers! Plus our anniversary is in October & we will plan another domestic mini vacation to celebrate! :)
Well we're in our second year of marriage but we're moving to Atlanta and buying a house!
We're also going on a week-long trip to Bonaire to go scuba diving.
We're spending a week in Whistler for our anniversary in February :) Snowboarding by day, hot-tubbing by night.
Video Games Live will be in Vancouver again sometime this year so we're super excited for that.
And SHHHH, don't tell him but I'm getting DH Cirque du Soleil tickets for his birthday. He's wanted to go see one of their shows for forever, and Quidam will be in town this summer so I'm gonna make it happen!
We want to take some sort of vacation this year. We don't know where or when yet, but we weren't able to take a real honeymoon (major sad face), and the whole not having had a real vacation now that we're married is really starting to get to us. If anyone has suggestions, I'd love to heart them. :)
@AnnieAAA: JEALOUS! I have Irish fever.
and awesome idea for a thread :)
Possible apartment hunting...but hopefully doing a little house-hunting instead :)
DH just started a new job that he is loving (super excited for him) and I became a SAHW.
Hope to have our land bought to build on by summer, though building may be put off til next spring. We just got a free architect (my awesome uncle) so that planning part is on the way. YAY!
DH is planning a trip for us, our delayed HM, but he will not tell me where. I assume it will be were we had originally wanted to HM, but he may surprise me with Europe which was our second choice.
Right now we have a wedding in Colonial Williamsburg Memorial Day weekend.
We are planning to go down to Georgia, to my ILs lake house, for at least one week over 4th of July.
And we are starting to think about what we want to do for our 2nd anniversary. We're thinking possibly a weekend in Niagara Falls.
Ohhh good idea!
This year we are:
I love having to plan something other than a wedding! Although I do miss that sometimes :-/
We're going back to Clearwater in May for our anniversary
We may rent a beach house in Rhode Island in August for my cousins wedding
We're going to Chicago in October for the Miami-Notre Dame game
Then back to Florida again for Christmas/NYE, probably Miami for NYE
I start business school in a few weeks and DH starts a new job in March so trying to make plans has been annoying
We're also reeeally hoping to move closer to NYC this summer (but stay on the Jersey side)
ETA: Oh and DH is convinced we are going to do a Tough Mudder in November
Ooo fun! i really like the idea of getting the newlyweds board going - theres a ton of us on here.
Let's see -
(January) we just re-signed a year lease at our apartment, it will be up again next January so we may be house hunting in the later part of the year! Last weekend we did a weekend trip to Snowshoe WV with my brothers to do some snowboarding. Nothing else planned this month though.
(February) We will celebrate our 1 year anniversary! i've contact our cake lady and she is remaking our top teir for us! yay, i think we are going to try and go to Gatlinburg TN for a 3 day weekend. Myhusband will turn 27 a week after our anniversary! i'm at a loss as to what to plan or do for him haha.
My birthday is in May and usually falls around Memorial day weekend so we will try and get away for that probably charleston. We have ALWAYS done a week trip in Feb/March (out of the country) with our tax returns but this year i think we may push it out to the summer/fall since we have had so much going on the past couple months.
my husband was laid off at his company in october and luckily found a job right away but he hates it :( poor guy. Lucky for us his father is starting a company and wants my husband to come work for him. More pay, closer to home, job security! things are looking up.
usually during the summer we take a few weekend trips to the beach. we are only 3 hours away so its great for weekends! My parents hooked us up, we have an awesome beach umbrella, two really nice beach chairs and a rolling cooler haha!
Gosh, other than that we dont have much going on
Fun thread!
Here are our plans for the year (so far):
Getting our house set up (painting, decorating, getting settled, etc.)
We going to buy a new TV (I'm super excited about this)
Going to Disney World in May
We've both resolved to make an effort to be more social/make more friends
Hopefully get started on planning a cruise and also a trip to Europe
Great idea!
We're visiting family in Tampa in April; going ziplining in West Virginia in May; skydiving in November (first anniversary); and we're planning a Christmas trip to the UK and France. I was in London for the holidays a few years ago and loved it!
It's exciting not to be saving for a wedding haha!
@MrsDibs: Rando, but before/after the superbowl is a great time to buy a tv. Before because they run a ton of specials and after because everyone returns them and best buy has a ton of open box items.
ohhh! i also forgot to add that DH and I are training for our first half marathon together! It's in May....eeee!
Oh yeah, I forgot - actually ordering wedding pics for us and making one of those fun displays on our wall with all the frames we got,
doing our wedding album
organizing our 2nd bdrm
trying to be more social!
enjoy summer this year - we live in Madison, WI so there are beaches, sailing, lots of fun summer stuff that we need to get out and take part in!
ETA: for a lazy homebody, I sure am ambitious this year!
- Upgrades to the house
OK all of these things may not happen in 2012 but I think 2 and 3 will.
- We have a rental property that needs to be upgraded when the current tenant moves out so MORE UPGRADES! huzzah!
- Trying to go away this spring, possibly the Keys or maybe Cabo we cannot decide
- Spending some time in the Cape and Ocean City this summer
- Possible? Girls trip this summer
Right now, just finishing school. Once I'm done that, all kinds of planning will begin.
We'll be coming into our second year of marriage here soon (yay!) and I think 2012 is going to be good to us:
Feb - 1 year anniversary (possible weekend trip if we can find someone to watch the pets)
May- NYC for DH's sister's graduation/hanging out with his family
June- possibly doing my first solo wedding in Cancun! (I'm getting into photography); also going to the Outerbanks on vacation with my family for a week
Aug- possibly going to ATL to visit some good friends of ours; also possibly doing a second solo wedding in California
Sept- My DH may be starting school! He is considering going back for his MBA to start in the fall :)
House-wise my goals are to get a backsplash done in my kitchen (finally) and fix up our guest bedroom which is super boring right now.
My husband and I have always done a lot of traveling, so just to add to that this year we're:
Going to Vancouver (my hometown) to visit my family and friends.
Going to England/Scotland - DH is going to be golfing his heart out in between taking in the sights.
Potentially visiting the Carolina's/Georgia for the 3rd time.
We are also going to start TTC! So excited about that, we're both so ready to have a little one.
We're wanting to do some home improvement projects this spring/summer - painting or even redoing the front porch, doing some decorating.
yay 2012!
Yay! I hope the newlywed boards stay fun! All the anti-baby talk is really bringing my mood down :/ I think I'm gonna start a board for people to just post pictures of babies :)
Our plans for 2012:
First and foremost, we are going to lose this weight! We started Weight Watchers on Monday and we're both already down 3 pounds!
We are planning a road trip with my sisters to DH's grandparents home in New Mexico. A week of hiking, fishing, relaxing in the hot tub, and beautiful 75 degree weather. Ahhh...July, hurry up and get here!
If DH's boss decides to go ahead with his plans, DH will start working at home. This means his boss will give him enough of a raise for us to move into a bigger apartment, so he can have his own office at home! I think I've convinced DH that if this happens, we should get a three bedroom...in case a little one happened to come along in the next couple of years ;)
Well this is our second year of marriage but I still want to play, so fun!!
On Jan 28th we are going to a ski resort for the second time (went there last year) to go snow boarding! :-)
With our taxes we are getting a new living room suite & bike, plus other small things like curtains, rug, ect. & Put some towards a mini vaca.
As for Valentines day I have no idea what we are doing yet. Still figuring this one out! lol
This summer we plan on going on a hotair balloon ride in Tennessee! We are SUPER excited for that! Also we are going to the zoo. We went there last year & this year I talked my mom, step dad & sister into going with us! :-)
We don't plan to TTC this year. We had planned to start this winter but I keep changing my mind. Hubby is ready to go or wait as long as I want or when I want to start, so we will see.
As far as anything else planned we just plan to hike, golf, picnic, bbq & all of those fun summer things we cannot do during the winter!! I am getting cabin fever!!!!!!!
Oh & I am sure go to a few nascar races this season coming up!
Sounds like a lot of traveling going on! I love it! We didn't travel much while dating, but we are planning a lot more now. We were thinking about an Alaskan Cruise but that will wait till next year, we still have savings goals to meet!
@ parasol Maybe we help you out, if you give us some location and budget info.
@hisgoosiegirl Albums, prints and getting the rest of our thank yous out are at the top of the list, but thats not as fun as traveling
@ CorgiTales I've been suffering from house envy on and off and for some reason the main reason I want a house is to tile backsplashes and knock down walls! We aren't currently in a position to buy especially since were considering relocating.
Oops, forgot two others.
- win lottery
- buy house
There we go.
@linguo42: I totally bought my husband tickets for Quidam for his birthday too! It won't be coming to Calgary, but it's in Edmonton so we'll just drive up there for the day!
Whew! Where do I begin?
We are in the process of remodeling our new home including almost a 65% complete gut job. Hoping to move in by the time baby arrives end of April.
Oh! A baby due at end of April :)
My shower in a month so family will be coming into town for that.
My mom will be staying with us for ~2 months when baby arrives so after that we'll be driving back with her for a "month" celebration in NYC for baby.
Thinking about heading to the cabin where we got engaged with baby in the fall sometime, might be a combo bday celebration for my husband.
Thanksgiving in NYC this year with my family. Then Christmas in GA with my husband's family this year.
Have not even thought about anniversary celebration? Might do a early, early dinner in NYC when we're there in July. I really want to try Geoffrey Zakarian's restaurant!
We have a wedding in May just 2 weeks after my due date. Should be fun to see how the baby situation works out. Our first wedding with the concern of if baby is invited! :D
And a wedding in July as well.
And oh! I turn the big 3-0 days within my due date.
This year I'm sure will FLY by!
Wow, I'm glad to see other nascar lovers :D
This year we don't really have a lot of plans. We'll definitely be going to at least 2 races (both Richmond races) and hopefully martinsville, too!
We'd like to get some new countertops, but we're not sure if we can afford it yet.
In November, we'll be purchasing a new suv!
I'd love to plan a trip to Florida in December also.
@swanks4tw: see, that's why the CBC's need their own board :) So they can chit-chat about random stuff like this within their own group :)
Congrats on the 3lbs! Coincidentally, that's what I've lost too! Hopefully we both stay on track!
@Ryansgirl: where are you going in Eng/Scot? Please please please tell me! DH and I are hoping to go there in 2014. I was there in 2010 for a travel course and loved it so much.
You should DEFINITELY check out Edinburgh castle - it's a tourist trap, but an awesome one. My friends and I then walked (and shopped) down Princes street, saw Holyrood, then climbed Salisbury Crag, exhausted, and some of us barefoot. It was amazing.
Blenheim Palace near Oxford was beautiful as well. Sorry if you've been there already and I'm boring you! Now I have to dig up my fb pic from the crag, just cause it was so fun......
We just celebrated our first year, but I want to play anyway!
We both just got new jobs, so that's exciting! So we are planning on enjoying nearly doubling our collective salaries :-)
We are going to Florida for a week because my little sister is getting married in July!
In October we are taking a cruise!
We are planning a little road trip to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers in concert too :-)
Oh, and LOTS of hockey. So much hockey. We are buying full season tickets for the 2012-2013 season.
@AnneTossy: Richmond is my 2nd choice! But it's quite a bit longer of a drive. Mville would be awesome too! I think both would be maybe better for viewing the entirety of the track.....but I'm a Dale Jr. fan so Dega is where it's at!
@msgraphics: Thanks! We're in Southern California, and it'd have to be something really affordable (like less than $1000 right now). So probably somewhere we could drive to or fly to cheaply. More than anything, we just want to get away from our crazy busy life and have some time to ourselves. We have a lot of family throughout the state, and as much as we love visiting them, it's just not the same as a vacation with just the two of us.
@hisgoosiegirl: I love that neck of the woods!! We were in Ireland last March/April and man, the scenery is just amazing. Can't wait to go back!
We're flying into Manchester and spending a couple days in Liverpool before driving to St. Andrews. Then Inverness, Dornoch, Edinburgh, Glasgow and then back to Manchester! We've never been there so I appreciate the tips!!
@Mrs.Estep: two important questions.
a. what races are you going to?
b. what driver will you be rooting for?
Well....
February: 1 year anniversary, woohoo, we will probably take a weekend trip to either Moneterey or somewhere closish us, or we might get a room somewhere local and just have a romantic date night away from the house
Hopefully in the next month or two we will get a new fence around the house since ours is old and falling down. New flooring in the kitchen, and I really really really want to put a bar/island in at the same time, so hopefully I can convince DH and it wont cost tooo much.
Memorial weekend: Is right around my birthday so a weekend Trip
Sometime in Summer: Going to Seattle then probably to Canada (it will be my first time!) with my family
Labor day weekend: Annual vacation (unplanned and undecided at this point but a lot of our friends are wanting to join us this year so it should be fun!)
And sometime in the next year DH and I want to run a half marathon, so I REALLY need to start training for that.
ETA: I think it's going to be a great year! And I love that we are livening up this board!
Oh I forgot, this past summer we started "chasing waterfalls" so its our goal to go to, swim in and explore every known waterfall within a 1.5 hour drive this summer. I think we made it to 5 last summer. We live in a beautiful location that we totally take for granted so we are trying to stop that with little adventures like this!
@MrsStormy: That's such a cool idea!! The only waterfalls here are in the rockies and are freezing cold glacier water! lol
sorry in advance, going to spam with Edinburgh/Salisbury Crag photos.
1. from the castle looking toward the Crags
2. friend peering over the perilously steep edge. At the very top of the pic you can see the Castle. Notice barefeet. Crazy girl.
3. other friend risking life to sit on edge. Barefeet again. Crazy girl. You can really see how the castle kinda sits on its own hill right in the middle of the city.
4. Peering down the north face to show how freaking steep it was.

1.
We just got back from our honeymoon a couple weeks ago and I'm already itching to plan another trip! I feel like we are in total limbo right now...we are both currently employed but we don't love where we live and want to settle down in a different area. DH has been interviewing and he just had a 3rd(!) interview on Monday.
Fingers crossed that this year will include moving, working toward a new career path, decorating a new place, and starting to look for a house.
Of course, we can't do anything right now or even really make any plans, because we're not sure where we'll be in 6 months or a year. I'm hoping we'll have a better idea soon!
