That’s awful! Have you talked to the embassy? They may have some ideas on how to deal with the new law.

How frustrating. I already find countries with overly long quarantines for pets really problematic. This is so much more stressful, especially having the laws just change on you like that. Doesn’t it take a while for the law to become active after it has been passed? Maybe not in Afghanistan though. Hope you’re able to get an exemption.

@Mrs.LemonDrop:  Oh god. I am so sorry to hear this, and believe me – I know exactly how you’re feeling right now. I was actually just checking back to the pets forum to update my thread on getting Daisycat out of China, when I saw yours. I can’t believe you’re having to endure this after so many years and trips with your furbaby.

I don’t understand the point of this blanket rule – I mean, I understand tightening restrictions on animal imports, but why should the Afghan government care about what animals leave the country? Surely that should just be the problem of the country the animal is going to? Even when it comes to banning livestock exports, it’s usually the recipient country that does so.

I am fairly confident your vet will be able to come up with a solution/find a loophole somehow, but it must be so stressful wondering about the worst case scenario.

Is there any way you can get Sophie out of the country (into a neighbouring country with more reasonable animal export rules) in an unofficial way? By that I mean hand-carrying, basically, and crossing the border. We were considering doing this for Daisy, back when we thought we were going to Hong Kong – there is a pet export company that specialises in getting cats and dogs over the Mainland/HK border. Is this something you could consider?

That is awful news! Please update once you hear anything.

I understand having restrictions on IMPORT but exporting your own pet if you are moving shouldn’t even be an issue, it’s the issue of the country you are entering and you seem to have all your ducks in a row …until this shit got thrown in.

Best of luck!

That’s horrible! 🙁 I really hope that your vet is right and it gets overturned soon.
