so Miss Pudding's post here: http://www.weddingbee.com/2009/11/12/a-rose-by-any-other-name-3/

got me thinking - what will your future children's names be?

In all honesty I only have my future daughter's name as an absolute. I have a few ideas for a son's name but comprimised with my husband that he can choose our son's name as long as I get my way with our daughter's first name. :)

My great Aunt Kay's real name (she was Polish) is Casimira. When I found this out (after she passed) I fell in LOVE with this name and vowed to use it for our first daughter's name. We have comprimised and I will be using his mother's first name as her middle name (his mom passed away when he was 12)...

Casimira Suzanne will be her name.

I also, though, love the names Lillian and Olivia and absolutely must use "Emma" for our second daughter (if there is one) as that is a longtime family name on my mom's side of the family.

I have a few faves, ironically similar to yours!  I love Emma and Olivia - FI wasn't sold on the Emma, but I also like Ella, I have to run that by him someday, lol =)

I don't have as many boy names picked out, but I LOVE the name Jake...I know it's the nickname for Jacob, but I just really like Jake.

We liked Olivia, too--3 years ago when it wasn't popular. Now we've decided on Isabella for a first name, Ella for short. As far as boys' names go, well, he wants to name him after his middle name (Dh is named after his father's middle name) which is James. Kinda snoozy to me but I just don't like boys' names as much as girls' names! I have a super common first name and I don't like that everyone's like, "oh I know an Emily, toO!!!!"

If we have a boy: John William _________

My Dad's first name and his dad's middle name.

If we have a girl: Evelyn (evie) Elizabeth ________

My Grandmother's First name (was very close with her) and FI's mom's name.

I figure since the kid gets to have my FI's last name that I'm picking the first and middle names.

I love the name Kitana for a girl. (I totally got that from playing Mortal Kombat with my brother years and years ago LOL!) I would love to spell it Katana, because my grandma's name was Katherine - Kat for short - and would love to incorporate that. But Katana spelled that way is a sword, sooooooooo not sure haha.

For a boy, I love Holden.

Rebekah.. and you thought that was MY name.. hahaha.
Nope.. I love that name and the way it is spelt. My FI and I have been to Nicaragua on missions trips and he had a little fan club. :) awww... a group of little girls that he would throw in the air and spin around with. One of them was named Rebecca. . she was his favorite... sooo cute and shy. He is the one that mentioned this name for future children... awww :)

I like Lenora as another girls name. my great grandmother..
And Rylie for a boy (means Valiant) but our friends (who didn't know this) had a girl and named her Rylie,,, so can't use that one. .

I know I'm not marry yet or even engaged for that matter but BF and I have agreed on some names...

Coming from big families we hope to have a big family as well. And me coming from a broken family that has experienced fertility issues resulting in the death of one of my little brothers (11 years ago yesterday) I have thought long and hard about my childrens names for a while. I plan on using my mom's maiden name and my middle name for my first daughter and my late brothers name as my son's middle name. BF lost an uncle years ago and we plan on using his name as well. So all of our children will be able to have a name sake to remember and to carry on.

We already have our names picked out for any kids we may be blessed with.

boy #1 - named after daddy of course

boy #2 - Robert Francis (after both of our fathers)

girl #1 - Madyson Ashley (we like Madyson...Ashley is after his sister)

girl #2 - Taylor Crystal (we like Taylor....Crystal is after my sister)

Let me mention that we are only going for 2 kids but wanted to have 4 names in case we end up with 2 of the same sex =)

I'm bad with names lol. First we were thinking Jackson Alexander and Genevieve Aida (adia after his grandmother), but Jackson is moving up the ranks in popularity and I just feel Genevieve is too long. I really really like Clara, Lola, Eva. Simple names but not overly popular. I try to suggest new girl names, but hubby seems pretty insistant on Genevieve lol Boy names, I really like Parker, but hubby said no. He gave me a "big maybe" for Warren, but my mom said he'll end up being a geek with that name. (which is one of the reasons why nobody will know the names we pick out until after baby is born and named lol) I tend to like boys names that are like last names though. Not sure why.

I'm pleasantly surprised by your name choices as being more sentimental and honoring family members than going with the more trendy ones. I recently joined my HS site on Facebook and you can tell the popular names of the times just by scrolling through!

It also helps if you don't use an oddball spelling. Your future kids will thank you for it!

I don't plan to have kids for at least 5 years so I don't really know. I have thought about it but the names that I like are too popular now (Olivia, Sophia, etc). I want to name my kids something that is not so unique they get made fun of... but not so popular that there is 2 others in each of their classes.

@honeybun- I love the name Holden for a boy....reminds me of the I Love Lucy episode where she visits the Brown Derby and Bill Holden sits behind her and she knocks a platter full of pie into his face and then kisses him when he fibs to Ricky about how he knows her! I know that was a lot of detail about Lucy but hey look at my avatar.

@smyley - i agree with the oddball spellings - but of course that's hard if the name you want is already "non-trendy"...and a family name from another country.

again - i LOVE the name I picked out but I know she'll never find anythiing made with her name already on it..course that's the "curse" I've had with my own name for 30 years... :P

That will for sure be an interesting challenge. I want to honor my French Canadian heritage but I don't want my kids to be make fun of. We also want it to be easy to pronounce in both French and English. So far we love Anna Michelle (after my mom) for a girl.

For 10 years I've been saying that if I have a girl her name will be Madeline (my maiden name) FH last name.  But now there are so many Madelines, Madisons, and Maddies that I am not sure I want to use such a popular name.

I want to use Walker (family name) as a middle name for a boy.

FI has horrible name suggestions, so we're going to have to work on this.

Too funny...we have the same first name and the same taste in girl's names!

I love Evelyn (nn Evie) Elizabeth (This is my middle name, as well as my FMIL and Mom's middle name).

For a boy, I love Nicholas Morton (FI's late father's first name).

I just know that I want my kids to have unique names.  I have a very unique name and it's really fun!

Some of my faves: Drew (for a girl), Holden, Gage, Blair, Kennedy (for a girl) and we've given serious consideration to naming a son Jeter Anthony.  If people can name their kids after Shea Stadium (Kevin James) I see no problem with it ;o)

This is going to be a challenge when we get makin' babies!  He tends to like more common names whereas I do not.  I am with some of the others on here; I really want to stay away from the names in the top 100.  I have been wanting to name a daughter Eva for years for my great-grandmother, but it is suddenly racing up the list (probably due to Eva Longoria and people looking for an alternative to Emma).  I do love checking those lists out though, and seeing what "TV" names shoot to the top (Addison anyone?)!

And hey, no offense to any of you who like those, a lot of them are really beautiful names, hence the popularity!  I've just always liked that I wasn't one of three people in my class with the same name.

I'm kind of lovin' Lucy and Olivia for girls' names. Can you tell I want daughters? :)

When I was in college, I loved the name Charlotte, but that slowly started to fade over time.

Right now I think we've settled on at least one boy's name and one girl's name...

Boy:  James Finnegan (James is FI's father's name and the tradition in their family is to name the first born grandson after the paternal grandfather.  "Finnegan" because his dad's family is Irish and we'll call him Finn)

Girl:  Ava Louise (The tradition in my family is to give the first born daughter the middle name of 'Louise'.  It was my great-grandmother's first name, my grandmother's middle name, my eldest aunt, mine, as well as two of my younger cousins).

I like old school, puritan, and/or obscure names. Probably because those sort of names are used a lot in my family, and my mom picked 'weird' names for my sisters and I which differentiated us, but also became more popular. Guess she was ahead of the curve!

I really love the names: Felicity, Leda or Lena, Sharona (m-m-m-my Sharona! Oh yeah, I would totally do that to my kid), Jude (I can see it now..."Hey Juuuude...getyourbuttdonwhere!"), Stephen, Neal, John, Eleanor, and Wesley. The last five are family names.

But I refuse to have any Sarahs, Ashleys, Ellas, Michaels, Dans, names with weird "modern" spellings, Masons or Reeds or Taylors or Hubcaps, flower names or names to denote beauty, names with awkward connotations (aka Lesbos or Lilith...yes, I do know a Lesbos, an Opera Lesbos in fact), or names that people will mishear to think it's something else. I'm picky, aren't I? Haha. I blame it on being a writer and picking names for characters too often. :P

When I was in high school, I wanted 6 kids.  All of their names were to begin with the letter E.  Not sure why, just liked that letter, I guess.  Also they were to be sets of twins, so I wouldn't have to do the childbirth thing more than 3 times.  My grandma was a twin so I totally thought this possible (esp after one of my cousins had twins!)

Since then, I have decided 6 is a bit much, and will be happy with what god gives me.  But my FH's grandmother was a triplet.  So now I have it from both sides, and am pretty sure I will end up having at least one set of twins! The names I really like for girls are: Erma - my grandmother's name and Germaine - my other grandmother's name.  For boys I like: Ezekiel - so we can call him Zeke! lol.  And we will have to have a boy with middle name David, as that is a family name on my FH's side, it's his name, his dad's middle name, his half-brother's middle name, his grandpa's (that he's met like twice) name, so I have been told by both the FH and FBIL that I must name one of our kids this, lol.

I like Hannah, Emma, Madison, Anna for girls.  I want my kids to have names that sound timeless and won't have people scratching their heads in 50 years... although with the trends of the times, I'm sure names such as "Apple" and whatever other crazy names are popular right now will be more common and sound more normal.

For boys, I have absolutely no boy names that I like.  I better have only girls. :)

The girls' names I love are all from other countries that we have no connection to, so it might be kind of odd to use them. But my favorites are Nadezhda (pronounced na-desch-da) and Guiliana (pronouced like Juliana). Is it too weird to have a Filipino-Norweigan child with a Russian or Italian name? lol

I have a daughter named Olivia.  When I was picking names 7 years ago it wasn't that popular.  I still love it and since she's been the only one in her classes with that name its been alright.  Like Olivia, the other names I like are old and traditional too: Evelyn, Vivian etc.  Boys names are harder and don't have any that I love.

I have too many girl names- I love Evelyn, I want to call her Evie, then there's Margot (I think I would spell it like that too). However, since I have to name a son Mario (boo! I don't want to do the same name thing and I don't have a choice Laughing), I think I want to do Italian names for the kids. Therefore I will definitely do Lilian, with Natalie as a middle name since he gets to give our son his name!

*However, his mom has stated every time I've brought up Evelyn that she hates it- it will be very hard to not name a daughter that because I'll technically be agreeing with her and giving in. Wink

I love Zachary for a boy, but he hates it so it's out. And I have no other Italian boy names I love, so we'll have to work on that if we have 2 sons.

We already have a name picked out if we have a girl - Claire Kathleen. We both just love the name Claire and Kathleen was his mom's first name (she passed away when he was 15).

For a boy we are still up in the air. I really would like the middle name to be Robert, after my dad who passed away a few years ago.

Boy or girl, the name will be Mason.  It's my maiden name, which I'm keeping, and I want my child to have it for one of their names, and I like it as a first name.

If it's a boy then it will be Mason Wesley (it's a middle name passed down in my bf's family to the first son).  If it's a girl then it will probably be Mason Eileen (my mom's middle name).

I only want one child at the moment, but if I end up having more, some other names I like for a boy are Haydren, Beckett (yes, after Josh Beckett on the Red Sox), Garrett, and Huckleberry (I would love to call a little boy Huck!).  For girls I live Devenney, Cadrian, and Maeve.

I've always loved the name Sofie or Sophia for some reason, but hubby isn't too keen on that one.  He definitely doesn't want to think about names until there is a baby on the way.  I am determined though, if we have a daughter, her middle name will be Ann since that is my middle name, my mom's first name, and my grandma's middle name.

I find boy's names harder, especially since if I think of a name, I have to think of anyone who I know or have known who may have had that name.  It weeds out quite a few of them!

@ gretchin - I LOVE the name Finn!

I really like a lot of the names listed above but I know my kids will end up with traditional names.

I like "little girl" names - Emma, Ella, Molly, Abby, Charlotte, Maggie, etc. & I think it's cool when boys have nicknames John Patrick "Jack", Andrew Michael "Drew", William Joseph "Billy"etc. - all family names btw.

I'm a big believer in the 1st name has to go with the last though. FI's last name - well, for kicks let's just say it's "Flower" (it's close). I've always loved the name Lily & even had a doll with the name when I was a kid - but you can't name your kid Lily Flower. Undecided

Edit: FI loves the name Stella. But I can't stop thinking of Streetcar Named Desire. "Stelllaaaaaaaaaa" LOL

He said Kat. When pressed, he said Kathryn (which is ok, but he'd call her Kat)

He also grew up with cats as a kid. I really never suspected that out of the two of us, he'd be the one with the potential to be the Cat Lady as an elderly person.

@Bostonbee: Mason is one of my picks too, for a middle name as it's my grandfather's middle name.  The other is Ryan because it's my middle name and my grandfather's last name.  Boys or girls, these names will be in the middle!

    I wanna play!

My FI and I made an agreement years ago, he gets to name the first born son I get to name the first daughter.  So far that's not exactly an ideal plan but we'll work on it.

For boys I like: Avery, Isaiah, Blake.  And I want to use my step father's first name as the middle name.

And for girls:  Mikayla and Arian

My FI is onboard with the girls names luckily but for boys he likes: Nile, Bryson and Malikai (not sure how to spell it).  Of those 3 Byrson is the only one I can see myself being ok with.
