FI told me that his parents are giving me his great-aunt’s 2010 car for free. In addition, they are giving us $5000 after the wedding. I don’t feel worthy of this. All I’ve done was love their son and took care of his great aunt when she was very ill earlier this year. This is too much.

@BeeRod527: Congrats! 😀 Seems like a good-karma bug just bit you!

@lolita39: I wasn’t expecting this from them. When FI told me he had a surprise for me, I thought it was an extra day off or tickets to a concert, not a new car. His family is like a second family to me (even though his dad and I don’t always see eye to eye)

Wow, that’s awesome! I know how you feel, but definitely just smile and say “Thank you.” They want to give it to you, and clearly think you’re super special!

@BeeRod527: Awww that’s so sweet of them! Clearly they very much see you as part of the family.

I understand the awkardness, FI’s family is the same way. I’ve never gotten a car, but they’re loaded and gifty. It makes me squirm. We just gotta keep practicing pretty smiles and thank you’s!

What an awesome gift !!
I know how you feel. MY IL’s gave us their 2005 Ford Explorer. It only had 20K miles on it. My FIL didn’t like that both of us had over 100k on our cars. He didn’t like that I was driving his grandsons around in it. I was speechless. They are always giving us stuff and buying stuff for us. They tell me its for making their son the happiest he has ever been and for giving them 2 additional grandchildren. Love them.

I’m still in shock. But if I see any member of his family, I’ll give them the biggest hug! When I asked FI how to repay them for all of this, he said, “just give them grandkids”!
