Have you and your FI (or Husband) discussed what you will name your children someday?
My FI wants a junior, which I am fine with. We also want a daughter named Grace. That's as far as we've gotten. :)
What about you? Have you come up with any good names? Or have you not approached the subject?
I know where you are coming from. My FI and I started talking baby names after probably a year of dating. We've gone through all sorts of names. but never really 100% agree. However, my FI seems to be warming up to my favorite boy's name: Alvaro.
Mr. Y and I are pretty big on the idea of using family names for our children. So far, I'm hooked on Andrew Reid, Audrey Rose and Emilia Claire. Considering that those are all names from my side, I think there may be some compromising to do! :o)
We have names picked out (or so I think, Mr. Joe sometimes doesn't really pay attention to stuff like that lol) but we're not sharing them with anyone because we want to leave those a surprise until the baby gets here (and it'll hopefully be another 5 years lol) we'll share the gender, but not the name :)
For a long while (prior to meeting Mr.D) I like Ella and Jake, btu then I found out my sister wants Ellie and Jack! We're so opposite yet we chose such similar names, crazy! I also liked Liam, but Mr.D isn't into it, we both like Jane and Grace though, maybe we can only have girls?
We're also considering naming a child with my maiden name, IF (IF IF IF) I lose (or make it my middle) my maiden name and take Mr.D's
We've got our boy's name picked out, but no girls' names yet (just a few possibilities). I think it's fun to talk about. I am big on family names as middle names to honour loved ones, and we've agreed to use my father's name as a middle name. But I'm going to keep it a secret from most people - I want to see the look on dad's face when he's holding his first grandson (I'm the eldest, so it's very likely mine will be the first) and hears his name!
Is it awful that we have baby names but also agree that we don't want to have children? If we did our names are Sydney Austin (girl) and Bailey Alexander (boy).
We know if we have a girl... its MIA
and a boy... we arent sure yet. TRISTAN maybe
we talk about it when a friend or relative is having a baby. (Btw-- my sis is finding out the sex of her baby tomorrow! yay!) There are a lot that I like (girls: Colleen, Claire, Margot, Maeve, Julia / boys: declan, owen, daniel) but they change frequently!
@yorkie -- that made me giggle because Andy Reid is the name of the coach of Philadelphia Eagles!
@GaBGal: I thought Andy Reid sounded familiar! My fiance is a huge Eagles fan!
Mr. M want J names but I'm not too fond of many. We have talked about (girls) Jayley and Jordan and (boys) Jordan and Ian, but we can't agree on many so I won't be suprised if one of those become our future kid's names.
Oh, another name we love is Kalani for a girl - so pretty!
I think I plan on using my maiden name as a first name for a boy. I'm not sure how many kids I want though lol if it was up to Mr. HoneyBunny I would be knocked up right now! How does Ayers sound for a boy to you Bees?
Um we have gotten as far as naming our next fur baby. Whiskey snafu the teacup poodle. Well okay its going to be mine since he doesn't think a teacup poodle is manly enough.
Funny we were actually talking about this today... If we're blessed w/ a daughter I really want to name her Lillian b/c we both have a grandmother w/ that name.
This is so hard because I change my mind so often and tend to like somewhat "trendy" names, like right now I really like Avery for a girl but I might hate it later. But then again, I like older names too...
If we have a boy Ryan Casey (my FI is Casey Ryan). If we have a girl I really like Ella and Grace and have for the past few years. Also realy like Stella but that may be a little too much (and it's basically the same as Ella :)). We probably will end up with 2 boys though... so I really like Nicholas. FI really wants a girl named Kaitlynn but I put the kybosh on that.
Well, I've always loved the names Emmeline, Lucia, Donnatella and Viola. For boys, I like traditional names like Samuel, Eliot and Seamus... Seamus would probably be mispronounced FOR HIS WHOLE LIFE though...such is the tricky thing with ye Irish Celtic names. If hubby-to-be had it his way, there would be lots of Norwegian names going on. I shut most of them down though... I don't really want our children, if we have any, to go their whole lives having people mispronounce their names (can you tell that is important to me? hahahaa)
Hubby and I have a whole list . . .LOL. Our first boy MUST be Joseph Carter. Joseph to honor his late grandfather and carter because we like it. The rest of the boys are Aaron James and Lucas Stone. The girls are Thea Rose, Sophia Grace, Kate Madison, and Thalia
As a pediatrician, there are certain names that I definitely don't want! In the NICU there are certain names that we consider to be bad prognostic outcome indicators, so I'd want to avoid those... but that's easy to do because they are usually names like "Diamond" "Miracle" "Destiny" and "Nevaeh". There are also some names that you can see 10 kids in a row with the same or very similar name... think Jadyen, Braden, Caden, Aiden. They are good names, but just really really popular right now. Also I'd like something that can be understood from the spelling. No Christine with three Ys or anything like that.
Having said all that, I like classic but not so popular names. I love my grandmother's name and would love to honor her by naming a child after her :)
I am worried about jinxing names, so I refuse to seriously consider names until a healthy baby is in our hands.
In the meantime, I jokingly refer to our future kids as Edward and Bella - I greatly dislike Twilight, so I can be positive that we will never use those names! That way I can avoid jinxing any names that we might actually use...
@Doctorgirl- how about these for bad prognostic indicators. . i once knew a family with four children named. Chidara (means favored), Miracle, Divine and Anointed. . the parents names? Friday and Favour
Lol mrbee the funny thing is your kids will probably be in classes with tons of Bellas and Edwards due to those books. So just maybe your whoever might come home with her own Edward. O.o The horror.
@SaraB- that is just. no. good!
I wish I wouldn't be violating HIPPA to share all the good ones I've run across over the years. I could have us all on the floor laughing... but sadly, I'd be revealing too much.
And Mr. Bee- my fake nickname is always "Bile Duct". I feel 100% confident that I would never use that as a name so I always use it for puppies I would want to take home or future children ;)
we have picked Kate May for a girl and Oisin Hugh (pronounced osheen) for a boy.
@Soon2bMrsMcC- My cousin has a son named Oisin!
I already have two two little girls. Their names are Violet and Lulu (her name is actually Evelyn, but nobody has called her that since she was a wee little baby).
My husband is Finnish, and we have a very peculiar last name, as in, we have to be careful what we name a boy, otherwise he will be teased mercilessly. He wants to use his fathers name, Aarne, as a middle name. Possibly his grandfathers name, Aarmas, as a first name. I think I will leave the boys name up to him, as long as I have clearance. Boys names are tough!!
For a girl, we will probably use his grandmothers name Leila (prononuced Lyla). I tend to like quirkier girls names, he's def more of a traditionalist, so this is a good compromise.
We're really excited to add to our family!
Definitely! And more so as of late! :)
For some reason girl names flow really quickly to me, whereas, boys names do not. Which makes me think that maybe our first (godwilling) will be a girl. But then both sides of the family are long way overdue for a boy to hit the baby scene.
I have always personally really liked the name Samantha for some reason and always thought I would name our first girl Samantha. But then I'm afraid she will hate the name because I like it so much, if that makes sense. I know for sure that I want all our kids to have a chinese name as well so that will be their middle name.
When looking for names I always start first from meaning. I always look for names with meanings of strong & beautiful. Intelligence & Kind. Etc. I think this stems from all those essays in elementary school of "what does your name mean?". And my english name does not have a significant meaning as to why it was chosen so I always hated that!
ETA: Another criteria for baby names. They must passed a rigorous ridicule examination of close family & friends. To see what kind of horrible nicknames they can come up with that the poor kid will have to live through childhood with. If so, the name's out the window!
Yes, my FI and I have come up with multiple baby names. We have also rearranged the order of the names to many times. Before our engagement when we freely talked about marriage is when we came up with the names.
Unfortunately, I cannot share the names ![]()
We want to use our parents middle names. So for a boy, he would be Henry Richard. And we would call him Hank. For a girl, we like Susan Marie. No nickname, just Susan. Our backup girls name is Francesca and for a boy I like Jeremy, which is my fiances middle name. He's not so crazy about it though.
Oh cute I can't wait to see!
Boy: Undecided. I like Adrien, but interestingly enough, I dated an Adrien for all of 3 weeks and not sure how he'd feel about that
Girl: We like Olivia and particularly, Ella. Not sure what it's short for or if it's just Ella. I'm surprised to see how popular it is. I also like Arabella, with Bella for short. I DO want to give her the middle name of Song, my gma's name.
We picked out our dog's name though...Bowser, lol
well - I've decided when it comes to the boy's name, he will be allowed to pick it out. For me, however, there's no question and he has no input (and he knows this! haha).
Casimera Emma Jean
Casimera is my great-aunt's name (she went by Kay) and she was named after her grandfather (my great-great grandfather, Casimer) it is Polish. Emma is my grandmother's name and despite it being very popular lately - is a long-time family name. Jean is my mother's middle name.
We'll probably call her Cassie.
I have four names...but technically my first name is 2 names (with a hyphen) so only 1 middle name - but he has two middle names - so darnit - i'm gonna do the same to our kids! lol. :)
SAMUEL for a boy for sure - he likes ANNA for a girl but I'm not sure about it. Possibly ALEXANDER/ALEXANDRA in there somewhere either as a first or middle name.
We have one boy name and one girl name that we've agreed upon. We pretty much dislike every other choice that the other one has, so I don't know what we'll do. Our girl name is pretty popular, so we may want to change it. I have a very common name and my husband's name is totally uncommon--so we want kind of a middle of the road name.
We actually have four names nailed down (they might change by the time we actually consider having children) Boys: Henrik Edward Abraham and Niklas Emmett, Girls: Lorelai Elaine and Emmeline Aoibheann. FI thinks that the kids may hate us because their initials would be HEAT, NET, LET, EAT but we'll see, we both agree we like the names, just not the initials.
We have definitely discussed the name thing, but haven't exactly agree on anything yet. I do think I have managed to talk him out of this french name, I think it is spelled "Didier" (pronounced Diddy-ay) if we have a son. I refuse to let my son be teased for a name like that! I like Grace for a little girl, or my maiden name. We have yet to agree on our son's name, because the names I like have negative associations for him, and vice versa. It'll be fun when the time comes :)
@DoctorGirl-
I'm with you on that one. I worked in the well-baby nursery and high risk nursery for 2 years doing hearing screenings... there are some BAD names out there. ;) And there are some that I saw almost every day.
I have a non-negotiable girls name, Carolina May. It will be four generations with the name May as a middle name. It started with my great grandmother, Evelyn May, then my grandmother was Carole May, then my mom is Heather May and my full name is Stephanie Carole May... In honour of my grandmother, I will name the first girl Carolina May. I also love Paige (would be Paige Heather Grace) and Sophie (Sophie Heather Grace).
As for boys, I love Nolan. My hubby likes Arthur. I say a big no to that one.
A new question... If you had to guess, what do you guess the sexes of your children will be? Have you decided how many you want? I want three or four (will most likely be three)... I have a feeling that I will have two girls and a boy.
FutureMrsTal, I love Lorelai. My hubby hates The Gilmore Girls, so he vetoed it already.
@ StephMay: I wrote a post about the old necklace trick that is suposed to tell you how many kids you will have and what sex they will be.. It's just an old wives' tale, but fun to do anyways. So far it has worked with just about everyone we've done it with.

Our favorite girl name is Caroline & our favorite boy name is William. No clue about middle names - or what we'd do if we had more than one of each sex!
