we did Peach jam as favors, and included bottled coke (from Costco) in our welcome bags. In addition we included Wrigley's gum (b/c all our guests had to pass the Wrigley's plant where it smells minty for miles). You could also include peanuts or something Braves related.
I live in SC but we go to Atlanta a lot and the most helpful thing as an OOT guest, IMO, would be: MAPS! A map of ATL and a map of the Marta subway routes because some people might prefer taking that. Hope that helps you!
Edit: also what about something Chick-fil-a related since they're from there? Like a gift cert for a sandwich or milkshake or nuggets, etc. I know people from out of town that, after having CFA for the first time were in LOVE!
We're including peaches, Cokes, and MOONPIES! :)
And of course a map because Atlanta is so confusing!
The chick-fil-a coupon is a great idea! Also, definitely use something Braves related -- you could even go a little retro and find something from the 96 Olympics?
What about the Varsity? I suppose that's more of an "Atlanta" thing, but they are expanding to the suburbs-- they have cute little paper hats they give out for kids. I bet you could get your hands on a decent amount of them.
LOVE the CFA idea! All my out of town guests always go there because it's a southern thing! We are also including the peach jam as well -- you can really cut down on costs if you make it yourself!
Oh yeah, the Varsity near GA Tech usually just hands out copious amounts of hats!
You should see if you can get something CNN/Turner Broadcasting related--like for the kids, you could get Cartoon Network keychains or stickers or something.
I love all these ideas! I actually just did a post on my blog about Atlanta welcome bags, check it out and post some more ideas. My favorite idea is using a six pack of Coke holder as the welcome basket!

We were able to buy peach jam in 5 oz jars at a discount by ordering by the case from an orchard/farmers market in N.GA.
http://www.jamsjellies.com I'd recommend calling them to inquire about ordering by the case.
GaBGal, I love your blog picture of your OOT "bags"! What is in the package that has the welcome sticker on the front? Are those peanuts? Where did you get them?
I agree! How about some Peaches? Some gorgeous, ripe peaches? I love the ideas of old fashioned coke bottles but think maybe they shouldn't be IN the bag as you know what happens when coke gets shaken up and say have the bags to the right and all the bottles to the left and have a sign up that says WelcomeTo Atlanta! Have some fun, and a coke and a smile!
Or for some light reading, how about some paperbacks from well known GA novelists? Like finding Atlantan Margaret Mitchell's paperback of Gone With the Wind ?? I swear..that book has more twists and turns in it than Desperate Housewives EVER had!!!
I agree with Wrigley's gum. Some of my patients work at the gum factories and bring me gum all the time! Love them. How about something with Atlanta Braves on it? They have lots of cute stuff!
or a bottle of wine from one of our fantastic GA Wineries? Wolf Mountain has some really great blends!
For your immediate bridal party there is an Atlanta "all access" pass you can buy for them and they could see all the amazing sites (world of coke, aquarium, etc) and it's not that expensive!
We're lucky to have such amazing things to do and a variety of things here you know?
for the OOT guests who had infants we included a "Georgia on my mind" t-shirt we picked up somewhere on clearance for $2.00 each. Their parents loved that they had an instant token of the trip for their little one (for several it was their first trip with the new baby).
ATLBride: The finished bad isn't my own creation, if you click on the photo source below it you will find it is from Sensational Baskets (they'll create baskets for you). i believe its just a "welcome" snack mix with pretzels, nuts and crackers. You can recreate this by getting cellophane bags, filling them and adding your own sticker!
The GA Peanut Commission sells individual bags of peanuts labeled "Georgia Peanuts" for cheap. You can get 25 packs for $3 or 300 packs for $35. They are perfect for OOT bags.

Since my wedding is destination I have beefed up my OOT bags, and I am incorporating something from every state my fiance and I have lived in instead of favors. For Georgia, I have peanuts and bottles of Coke.
Thank you so much for that link to the GA Peanut Commission!! I have been trying to figure out how to include peanuts without having to take the time to split up a giant bag and these are perfect and CHEAP!!

Georgia Girls...
Are any of you doing welcome bags for out of town guests? If so, what "local" items are you going to include? I'm just trying to get some ideas together in the "down" time of planning!
Of course there is always peaches of some sort. I was thinking about including a coke bottle/can if I can find some that are inexpensive (since World of Coke will be on our entertainment ideas).
