We just went through something similar when we moved... turns out that the building manager had made it a non-exclusive listing, so multiple brokers were listing it!
If the manager is the one who makes the final decision, then the other brokers may not be aware that she's found a tenant. Or she may be having them list it, in case you guys don't follow through with your interest or your references check out.
If she's oked your app and you followup immediately with a call, you should be ok!!
Mrbee, very good point! Thank you. Finding housing is so difficult in hot spot cities like ours.. Well, I'm sure it's hard everywhere, but being in some of the most crowded cities in the world probably doesn't help!!
This may be aggressive, but if you love this place... maybe grab a cashier's check for the security deposit + first month's rent, and show up there tomorrow in person?
Mr. Bee, that's a great suggestion. It would really let them know that you're serious and you could seal the deal at the same time!
Good news... We called today to follow up and the rental is ours! YAY!!!
Thanks so much for the good suggestions, both of you...
wahooooo!!

So a few days ago I posted an elated post about how we applied to a really cute house for rent, how they had lowered the rent by $200 for us, etc.. We met with the manager and everything seemed good, she took all of our applications and references, so on and so forth. I have excellent credit, my fi's is not great but not horrible. We got glowing recommendations from our current landlord and bosses. It was all looking good that we would get the house. So lo and behold I'm on Craigslist tonight, and there's a new posting of the very house we're trying to rent, back up to the original more expensive rent. SIGH!!! I'm now wondering if this means we didn't get it, or if they're trying to find people that will pay more.. It's just frustrating and I know in the end it's a business transaction so of course they'd want more money, but it just sucks that we have our hopes up and were so happy about finding a great deal and now it feels like it probably won't happen!! Bah! Moving sucks! I'm calling the manager tomorrow and asking what's up!! Thanks for letting me vent..
