These people regularly play LOUD music. I can hear it in my apartment with the windows closed and earplugs in. I don’t normally complain about the neighbors noises. I live in NYC, I expect ambient noise but this is too much. Its blasting through the whole neighborhood. I went outside to investigate where it was coming from, I thought it might be the businesses across the street) and it was a really sketchy building a BLOCK AND A HALF AWAY… I called the cops and nothing has happened thus far.
Any suggestions for how I can concentrate with this horrible loud music playing in my apartment? Or recommendations for ear plugs? I have to get through finals and 2 months of bar review. If this keeps up, I’m seriously going to loose my mind!

I’d keep calling the police if it’s after hours.
You could get some noise canceling headphones and play white noise over them.

@lawyerchick13: Earplugs for sure. Also, my FH is studying for dental school and I can be loud when I clean (vacuum, dishes, washer/dryer) and he has these headphones that block out sound and he will play rain/thunder or the sounds of a burning log. It works for him.

Youch, there’s nothing worse than trying to concentrate on studying when someone else is being so disrespectful. I would try calling the police once more. (Perhaps it will just take a while for a response? Too optimistic? I’m sure you’re not the only one to call if you can hear it for a block and a half radius.)
In the meantime, I’d either relocate to a library, coffee shop, or friend’s place, or I would find the most tolerable white noise or music to drown out the noise. A fan usually does the trick for me for white noise, and I find Simon and Garfunkel to be the perfect study music. Get some caffeine as well in case it will help your mind focus on the work and get past the noise.
