I did the same thing! I lost almost 20 and then gained like 12 or 13 pounds back. D:
Right now I'm doing Nike Training Club. If you have an iPhone or an iPod touch I highly recommend it. It's hard. The easiest workout laid me up for three days, but it's so good.
I've done Weight Watchers with success, too! If you're good at maintaining and tracking stuff, you can totally get results from that!
Write down everything you eat, so you can't lie to yourself!! I lost around 150 lbs without surgery. Do you exercise?
I strongly suggest Weight Watchers. I successfully lost 33 pounds doing it over 2 years ago. I've managed to keep most of it off (all except about 10 pounds (plus or minus)) And I am currently following the plan and my points closely again.
It won't happen overnight, but it teaches you a new way to eat and portion control. I steadily lost 2 pounds a week when I first started and have lost about 6 pounds in the last 4 and a half weeks.
I've also been working out at home. Treadmill and some Women's Health DVDs. I highly recommend them too. Not too intense, but enough to see results.
Good luck! It's a tough struggle...
Honestly my only regular exercise is walking. @cruisewedding, did you get married on a cruise? I have a free cruise lined up this fall and am looking into how we could make the trip our wedding/honeymoon. The honeymoon part is a no-brainer. I've seen the prices for wedding services through the cruise company, and it's out of our price range. I am wondering if it could be simple enough to get married on the beach in the port of departure.
@mermaideve - we did get married on a cruise and it was cheaper for us to do that then get married in San Diego. I think it depends on the cruise line though. We got married on Carnival.
@cruisewedding: It would cost at least 2K to have the simplest wedding with Royal Caribbean. We would only have two witnesses.
@mermaideve we had 50 people at ours, so it was worth it. Fortunately for us guests could come on the ship for the wedding and leave before we set sail :)
@cruisewedding2010 That sounds great. Everyone would have to travel cross country if we did that. We live in the west.
Do you remember what you did to avoid the sweets before? Sometime I have zero will power and wonder how I ever was successful at weight loss. It can be very discouraging.
The best advice I could give you is to try to remember what worked for you before and try to implement it.
For me, not having candy/sweets in the house is HUGE. When they are there, I think I can just have a little, but it NEVER works out that way.
I also would substitute fruit for sugar, when I was really dying for a treat.
Also - reminding yourself that it's a process and all those small steps you are taking DO add up.
All that stress really is a food-trigger, so don't beat yourself up too much. Try to think of things you can do to help with the stress in other forms other than food is a good place to start (a burst of quick exercise, a phone call, WB!, etc.)
Yes, I've been on weight watchers. I am very happy with the food choices I've made so far this week and with my tracking of my food. It helps a lot! Plus I'm going to be at home for 3 weeks recovering from surgery, and I have tried to stock the freezer with healthy food.
I reached my heaviest point this year and decided to start a fitness bootcamp and revamp my diet. I track my calories on loseit.com and try to stay under 1200 a day with a cheat day of 1800 on the weekend. 1200 is low but it's clear that most people underestimate their calorie intake by at least 20 percent, so I'm more likely really consuming around 1500 a day. Coupled with 3 rigorous 1 hour workouts a week and one hike on the weekend, I'm down 8 pounds in 6 weeks! It feels great and it's been a fairly quick but healthy shed...I eat 3 square meals a day and never feel hungry (and I definitely snack when I am hungry! No denying myself or I know I'll fall off the wagon)!
Weight watchers works for many of my friends and while I'm loving how I feel exercising, I truly believe that it's 95% diet and only 5% exercise when it comes to my personal weight loss (even with 4 days of working out, it's only 1 hour a day, and I don't have time for much more).
Tracking my calories has def. been the biggest help with weight loss for me---I decide what I'm going to eat for dinner, log my "estimated" dinner, and then divvy up my calories for the rest of the day that way (that way you don't reach dinner and realize you only have like 100 calories left).
Good luck with your weight loss!

Hi. I lost 20 pounds last year after a heart scare. This year I have gained back 10 of those pounds. There have been several stressors at play: work, my relationship with my guy, problems with my daughter and my upcoming carpal tunnel surgery (in a week).
While I certainly understand why I have been overeating, I so don't want to continue gaining. For health and appearance, I need to lose another 50 (I weigh over 200). I am writing about my weight woes rather than eating a second dessert. I was really good for a while about getting myself treats that weren't food. I welcome any suggestions.
