Any one else a fan of different sports teams than their SO? If so, is it a friendly competition or do things get serious?
My FI and I grew up in different cities, so our home town teams are different from each other (as well as different from where we live now). Most of the time, it isn’t an issue because our teams don’t have a huge rivalry (things would be different if I was with a New England/Boston fan ), but things could get more intense in our household as the hockey season winds down.

Mrs. Bee doesn’t like the Yankees. So I don’t take her to games at Yankees Stadium or watch the Series in front of her… that would drive me crazy.

That’s funny that you two are big sports rivals. We’re both fans of the same teams, so it works out for us. We’re VERY serious sports fans, so I think it would be somewhat difficult if we liked opposing teams. Although, we’re in the same fantasy footaball league, so we always compete against each other there.

Oh yeah! He’s a Steelers fan, I’m a Browns fan!

We have the ultimate baseball rivalry in our relationship. Ever since I was a little girl I’ve been a Yankees fan and the FI, well he’s a Red Sox fan. Our families are the same too, mine is Yankees, his is the Red Sox. It’s generally a pretty friendly rivalry, but when they play one another we definitely banter back and forth. We have different football teams, but that doesn’t seem to be a big rivalry between us. And wedefinitely like to bust one another’s chops when their team loses.

My husband is a Red Sox fan, and I’m a Phillies fan. Even though we’re both from the Philly area, for some reason, his dad got him started on the Red Sox when he was little.
It’s actually not a sore spot…instead, it’s something that totally reminds me of us. we were just starting to date when the Red Sox first won the world series after 80-some years in 2004. We watched them win together.
When the Phillies had that crazy 2 day final game of the world series, my husband had class the 2nd night. I was really disappointed, b/c if they won, we wouldn’t be able to share it together. He knew that and literally just walked out of his class after an hour of boring lab work to come watch them win the world series with me So, we think that we’re each other’s team’s good luck charms!

the only sport i’m really into is basketball and we are both lakers fans so that bodes well. my fiance is from northern california so he’s also a giants baseball fan, but if i had to choose, i’m more of a dodgers fan since i’m from la. it’s funny how sports crazed he can get.

The main "argument" we get into is what team our future children will cheer for, haha. Planning for it almost feels like a divorce: "Okay, future baby can wear pin stripes in the summer, but will don black and gold in the fall." Then we have to laugh, realizing that if we had kids, they would probably cheer for the teams where we currently live!

We are HUGE fans of major rival NFL teams, I was actually on the cheer squad for my team and FI is just a really big fan of his. We happen to live in the city of my fave team now so it is hard for FI to find fans of his team, we keep it fun and have a good time with the rivalry…

I’m a Yankees fan, he’s a Mets fan. It gets tense during the season… but we’re both Giants fans, so we recover well in the fall. 🙂
Most of the time we get along fabulously. We even go to games together and TRY to be happy for the other. But once in awhile, there’s some not-so-nice sniping about the team’s performance. (our friends don’t make it any easier!) In the end though, we’ve both been underperforming lately… I think that’s helped!

I grew up watching the Bills but when I got to college I became an Eagles fan by default. I still root for both teams and I like the Colts. FI is an Eagles fan through and through. We did go to an Eagles/Bills game together and he kept getting frustrated because sometimes I just couldn’t help cheering for the Bills. He kept saying "You are wearing an Eagles Jersey… You need to cheer for them" lol
As for baseball, we are both Phillies fan.
Basketball is a work in progress for me. I never really watched college or pro B-Ball so I am still getting into that.

We both grew up in Southern Oregon, so we don’t have our own sports team. However, we are both 49ers fans. I’m not sure what we would do if we were rivals. If he didn’t like the 49ers, I think my dad would think there was something wrong with him!

I am an Arkansas Razorback fan and he is an Oklahoma Sooners fan. We had to make sure our wedding date was a free weekend or away game for both teams. That only left us with two weekends to choose from!

My FI went to a big basketball school (UNC-CH), and I went to Davidson College (they were a big Cinderella in the NCAA tournament last year). We’re really only rivals on the rare occasions that they play each other. We do have some trouble when we have brackets for March Madness that are not the same though!
Right now his bracket is destroyed and mine is going strong, so things are a bit tense in the house.

nope. he’s not that into sports though he has a couple teams he keeps his eye on. the only issue we run into is him trying to get me to do something when there’s a game on. ha
