Oh my god we just finished the first season today and I know EXACTLY what you mean! I wanted to like it so bad! But everytime he asks if I want to watch an episode, I cringe a little inside, because I'm sucked in enough that I want to see what happens, but I really don't want to watch any more! DH likes it okay, because he read the books, but I'm so glad we finished the season. I seriously needed to take a shower everytime we finished an episode.
I like it, but I like the books. I like that he genuinely surprises you and the characters actually act consistently. FYI nothing gets resolved and it gets worse (& worse & worse). These are not happy people. The cliffhanger is pretty badass though.
We watch it but I don't like it. To be honest, I can't even follow it. The only part that I do like is the barbarian guy. He's delish!

I haven't seen the show because I don't get HBO but I have read three of the books. Honestly, some of the reasons you don't like the show are some of the reasons I love the books - I totally can't tell what is going to happen next. People die who you think will live and visa versa. I also feel like it is more realistic than other books/shows out there.
I love, love, love this show. Its followed the book so very well. If it wasnt so graphic, it just wouldnt do the story justice. This is a fantastic series and I am so excited for the second season to come out. If you havent already, please read the books. They are freaken awesome! (I am actually re reading them for the 4th time!)
@Mrs Sarah McK: YES. Especially with all the sex. I keep saying to DH... hey are so dirty all the time HOW do they even want to have sex? Ew.
@LGenz: I figured. We'll prob end up finishing the season bc there are only 4 episodes left and DH kinda likes it... but I just get angrier and angrier haha.
@UpstateCait: He kinda creeps me out. But I do like him better as the season goes on.
@SuperKate: Totally agree that its probably realistic. And I know... midevil times were hard, hard, times. Sad and depressing... its probably pretty accurate. But, my philosophy is always that life is real enough-- I watch tv/movies to be entertained and engaged. I like cheesy happy endings. I'm not paying for cable to be depressed.
@Bears-bub: yea thats just not going to happen haha. I can barely stomach the knowledge that I need to sit through 4 more episodes. Really not looking to get *more* involved.
I love LOVE love the show. I've started reading the first book, and we just finished episode 7. I like that the plot is windy and the stakes keep getting higher - I can tell there will be no happy resolution coming at the end of this season. I love that type of story.
I absolutely love the show too, and when we watched the last episode and saw season 2 won't come out til spring of 2012 I thought I was going to cry.
wow....i think this is the greatest show ever!!! The incest thing doesn't really bother me... if you look into history EVERYONE was incestual to keep the bloodlines pure...so because it's true to the timeline and the status of the family it's a total whatevs to me.
I'm so bummed you don't like it! Such an amazing series.
@MissDallasCowboy: i probably listed my grievances in reverse order of how much they bother me... but chronological order of when they arose haha. The incest thing squiggs me out but I could deal with it if I didn't have to watch wolves get murdered and horses heads cut off and-- most importantly-- nothing good EVER happen lol. Like seriously the best thing that has happened so far that I can think of is that creepy creeperson mcAlbino man got golded. And death should not be a highlight. haha.
@CorgiTales: That golding scene was pretty wicked, though. I like Tyrion Lannister the best, I think (the dwarf). And Ayra.
I also love the shows. I read the books about five years ago. It's actually been pretty helpful for my Fi. The show has a lot of characters so it can be hard to follow. But he can just pause and ask "What happened now?"
I'm not surprised that some people don't like it though. It is fairly graphic and it really doesn't hold any punches.
I love thi show. I think the character development is awesome. Watching Daenerys come into her own has been my favorite part.
I cam't wait to start reading the book :)

We've been watching this on HBO on demand... and we're just through episode 7. But the thing is... I just cannot like this show. I want to like it-- beautifully shot, directed, and acted. But I just don't.
1) incest -ew
2) wtf with all the killing of animals. and so graphic about it!
3) this show just goes down down down down. Just when you think it can't get any worse? It does. For 7 episodes running now. It isn't like a normal show where good things happen then bad things happen but then good things happen again. No. Every single episode just puts everyone in a worse position than they were in the episode before. Like 10% of me wants to finish off the season in the hope that SOMETHING gets resolved or at least a little better... but I have no confidence that will happen. I expect it'll just keep getting worse and then leave you with a terrible cliffhanger.
Am I alone here? Does anyone actually like this show? Why?
