I just want to know when things are going to start to go right...for anyone. I say that with a smile because it's actually one of the things I like about this series so much, that the story lines are not all neatly wrapped up by any means by the end of each book.
What's the real story with Varys?
Is Jon going to die? He and Dany are my favorite characters.
And I second your question about Jaime and Brienne, and comments about Theon.
I can't wait for the next one.
I totally didn't read your post because I'm only in book 3 and I don't want any spoilers, but hold up...book five? Six and 7?! Whoooooooooooooooo!
I have the four book set - Game of Thrones to Feast for Crows and I thought that's where it ended. I love it so far...so awesome. I have only seen a two episode HBO teaser so far (we have to wait for the DVD's to come out here!), but the show looks awesome too.
@kate02121: I totally agree on your comment that things always take such an unexpected turn! I was seething when the Red Wedding happened, and of course when Ned dies in book 1 (although I first saw it in the tv show), but it's twists like that that just make me unable to put the books down.
I didn't realize Varys was still in Westeros until the end of the 5th book.. who were those children!? That was so creepy. I gotta say whenever someone is described as pale, I immediately thing "wights!?!?" even though they're just.. pale.
I'm really only rooting for Dany, Arya, and Jon to survive since it seems everyone is dying off very quickly. Though I am really looking forward to when the storyline will evolve to Dany setting sail to Westeros to take back her birthright. At the rate the books are coming out, I'm sure I'll be old and gray before that happens. =(
@elysion: Ugh the red wedding, I'm still bitter about that. And FI watched the first season with me and still gets a little pissed about Ned dying, although he loves the show.
@Olive12: I completely agree with you on all counts! I forgot how much I like Arya too, although that storyline is going somewhere that I can't at all predict.
@kate02121: I actually dislike the storylines coming out of Braavos and the more exotic locales. It's interesting, but I like to get back to the nitty gritty of toppling kingdoms and what lies beyond the Wall. Isn't that what the Stark motto of "Winter is coming" all about?
@Olive12: My biggest worry is that George RR Martin will die before all the books come out ._.
I quite like the stuff outside of Westeros, I like all the main people there, Dany, Arya, Ser Barristan, and Tyrion. I think Dany is the only character you really know will survive. How can she not? I do wonder who the other two riders will be. Also, I really wonder how they will handle Tyrion's nose after the Blackwater in the tv series!! Would kind of suck if they avoid it, but somehow I think they will try.
@elysion: I also worry about him passing before the books finish. I hear it takes him a couple of years to write each book, not including the editing and publishing parts. As for following the books, I hear HBO is sticking to the same themes and events found in the first two books and going in different directions after season 2 to keep it new and fresh. Much like True Blood, it'll have similar themes but done in a different fashion.
Hmm if I have to speculate who the other riders will be I'm hoping for Arya or at the very least one of the Starks.
@Olive12: Yeah, I think the 5th book took .. 5? years to come out.. I feel like I'm saying 5 because it is book 5, but I know it was more than a few. He is also involved in the screenplay writing for the HBO series, so that's taking up his time too. I think Martin is rather known for tellin fans that he writes for his own enjoyment, not the fans' (for people who've wrote to him demanding he finish the books and stuff.. which I understand his reasoning).
I would be disappointed if the TV show veers off from the books, honestly.
A Stark rider would be cool! Part of me wants Tyrion to be a rider too. From everything they've hinted at though, a rider probably needs Targaryan blood for the dragons to accept them.
Yeah that Red Wedding was one of those moments where I stopped, put the book down, and thought, "oh hell no.." I couldn't believe G.R.R.M. had the balls to do that, but he did! One scene and several major characters were dead.
I think it's funny how you really start off hating Jaime Lannister. He was total scum in the first book. And yet as the series has progressed, you really get a soft spot for him, especially when he stops pandering to Cersei. I do want to know what happens to Jaime and Brienne. That was an unfortuante turn of events at the end of Feast for Crows as far as Brienne being asked to hunt down Jaime.
A few weeks ago, Martin released a sample chapter from the Winds of Winter, which is the sixth book. It's a Theon chapter, and I reeeeeeeeeally love it. It answered one of my questions from ADWD and opened up several more. I hope he finishes Winds faster than Dragons!
@windcriesamy: I saw that, read that earlier today!! God Theon can't catch a break, can he. I really wonder if Bran's been trying to talk through any of the crows.
btw, tonight HBO released a teaser trailer for Season 2!!
One of my friends on Facebook just posted the trailer! Gave me goosebumps! April can't come soon enough. :)
I totally agree about the Red Wedding. I almost threw my iPad across the room. And then I remembered it was an iPad not a book. Would love to see Tyrion and Jon as the riders.
Oh. My. Gosh. I'm almost done with the 3rd book right now but I read the Red Wedding part today and was genuinely pissed off. What the heck?? It is definitely stuff like that that keeps you sucked in but...it was horrible.
Haven't read the thread....just gotta say THANK YOU for posting that there are spoilers. I'm in the middle of the 2nd book with the 3rd waiting for me. Love it.
@Aliv5: I bought book 5 on my IPad, but I wish I had bought books 1-4 on it too bc after a while of holding them as I read, my hands/wrists were killing me. Those suckers are heavy!
I got my copies on my Kindle and you know what? The 4 bundle Kindle edition cost more than the 4 bundle paperback version! I was pissed to see that.. but still bought it anyway >.<
After doin some reading on A Wiki of Ice and Fire ( http://awoiaf.westeros.org/ ...I wasted way too much time on here when I should have been working) I saw George RR Martin has written a couple of novellas based on the era of Maester Aemon's brother's reign. Has anyone read these, are they worth seeking out??
I've heard the Dunk & Egg novellas are good, but good luck getting your hands on them. I really hope they get digital releases someday so I can get them on my Nook.
The second season is starting up soon (April 1!), lots of trailers and teasers coming out! Anything you are excited for, or dreading? I know it's going to be a little heartbreaking watching Sansa's abuse, even though I feel in the television series it's harder to be sympathetic towards her. Also Theon's betrayal of Winterfell, argh >_<!
@elysion: I'm getting excited for the season to start- one more week! So I thought I'd check back on this thread. I'm looking forward to meeting Jaqen H'ghar and seeing (even if just a little) about the many-faced god. AND meeting Davos! I aboslutely adore Davos.
Does Ser Barriston pop up as the old man in book two or book three? He's also one of my favorites. I have too many favorites. :P
Who else is getting pumped?
@thepainter: Yes, can't wait for Davos!! Stannis and Melisandre will definitely be interesting. That scene where she births the shadow in front of Davos... ugh, I know they'll recreate that one, just because it's so disturbing LoL.
I thought Ser Barriston appears to Dany in Book 3, but could be wrong. I realized after plowing through all the books in a row, I have no sense of boundaries between each book >.<
Anyone watching the series and having had read the books want to gab?? I'm having some... issues...
I really don't like how they are extending Robb's story. I realize you need more emotional attachment since you don't get it the way you do in the books before the RW, but the whole romance with the mysterious nurse is too... cheesy.
Meera and Jojen gone? I can live with it, Bran can easily learn about the green dreams on his own.
But no "Reek" to help Theon kill the "Starks"??? So how are they going to fit the whole bretrayal in?? I don't believe Reek is going to suddenly be the first mate ... that would be nonsensical.
I read in another forum that the way they are portraying Daenerys is making her seem much more vulnerable than she was in the books (being led around by Xaro, having her dragons stolen, etc.), and I tend to agree.
Is Jon Snow going to join the wildlings not under orders!? Because that would just be ridiculous!!! He gets ridiculed even after having done it under the order of the Halfhand but to just do it on his own, even if it is to save his neck.. I don't see how the actual character could bring himself to return to the Night's Watch. I guess we'll see what happens.
And it's not a big thing, but I don't like how they made Jaime kill his cousin ...

There is a thread for whether or not people are reading A Song of Ice and Fire, but I wanted to make a thread for people who have read it.. because I have no one else to talk about it with!! Ha. Like it says in the title, this thread will be rife with spoilers. Please refrain from any RUMOURS about Book 6 and/or 7 (although I don't think there are any...), let's just stick to SPECULATION. Or if you want to throw a rumour in, pretend you made it up ;)
I, for one, REALLY want to know what happened with Jaime and Brienne! I was so sad when she was caught by Catelyn, but when she showed up in Feast for Crows, I knew the only reason had to be she agreed to kill Jaime. But I really liked their hate grown to tolerance grown to maybe love or at least fondness relationship :(
Also, I wonder if the actor who plays Theon in Game of Thrones knows what is in store for him! The next season is all well and good, but when they get to Feast for Crows things will get so nasty for him. And he's so good looking too.. LoL.
