It's October, which means it's time for the next round of Game On! Who wants in?

Two teams, four weeks... let's do it!

The winners are determined by points accumulated, not by weight loss, so anyone can play, regardless of your current fitness level or weight loss goals! It's about getting healthy!

here’s the score sheet: http://www.bridgecityfitness.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/game-on-diet-score-sheet.pdf so you can keep track of your progress.

    The Game On! Challenge

You can earn a maximum of 100 points a day for doing the following:

    1) Eating 5 balanced meals a day, every 2-4 hours -- 6 points per meal

    2) Exercising for at least 20 minutes a day -- 20 points

    3) Sleeping for a minimum of 7 hours per night -- 15 points

    4) Drinking 3 liters of water a day -- 10 points

    5) Adopting a healthy new habit that you practice every day -- 10 points

    6) Dropping one unhealthy habit -- 10 points

    7) Communicating with your team members every day -- 5 points

You earn penalties (points lost!) for:

    1) stepping on the scale more than once a day (minus 1 point per penalty)

    2) unsanctioned snacking (you can have as much celery and cucumber as you want throughout the day, plus 100 free calories of whatever once a day, no other snacking) (minus 10 points per penalty)

    3) Colluding with the opposing team to get them to break a rule (minus 20 points per penalty)

    4) Drinking alcohol (see exception below) (minues 25 points per penalty)

    5) changing the healthy or unhealthy habit during the course of the game (you have to pick those and stick to them). (minus 50 points)

It's not about total deprivation as you get:

    1) One day off a week, when you don't have to follow any of the rules

    2) One meal off a week when you can eat what you want and have one unit of alcohol

    3) each day you can have 100 calories of anything as a bonus treat

    ...more info/FAQ’s at www.thegameondiet.com

    Game on!

@7SEVENJ9: Sounds like a plan! Maybe we should give the post a little daily bump so folks see it, since it was sooo popular last time with lots of people wanting in after the fact...

@BluegrassBunny: The good/bad habit portion is really my favorite. It can be anything! I think my good habit for this round will be dancing for at least 15 minutes a night. My FH and I are taking dance lessons, so I want to practice at home (in my shoes) to reinforce what we learn. Last go 'round of this, my good habit was to read for a half hour each day and have some "quite me time." It can be anything that you want to do but typically have a hard time making time time for. I limited carbonated beverages as the bad habit I dropped-- though, with this diet, you're not really allowed any. This time, I think I'm going to stop sleeping on the metro-- I wake up all groggy and worse off than when I started.

So really... anything. But think about it because if you change your habit mid-game, you lose 50 points!

    Good luck!

My good habit to adopt will be flossing daily. I know, I know, it's something I should be doing anyway - but I am terrible about it.

My bad habit to get rid of, well that will be more difficult to decide on. Last time I gave up Facebook for the hour after I woke up and the hour before bed, to limit the time I spent on there... this time, I'm not sure. One suggestion on the site was to "give up complacency" but to add what you're going to do - like you could do 3 sun salutations daily... not a bad idea, but seems like an easy way out of the bad habit thing!

I couldn't join in September because I was away on vacation, but I'd like to try it out this month..... When will we start?

I think my good habit will be tidying up before bed every night. Especially doing dishes and wiping the counters down. I hate waking up to a dirty kitchen... And then it bothers me EVEN MORE to come to it so I have to do it before I leave for work and it almost always makes me late!!

Bad habit will be to stop coming home from work and making a beeline for the couch. Once I turn that TV on that I'm done and won't get up off the couch for the next 3 hours. I am a serious couch potato. If I can do even one productive thing before sitting my tush down I'd say it's a step in the right direction!

Ooo @TinyTina - maybe my bad habit to break could be my habit of leaving dishes in the sink overnight...

    We're starting on Monday 10/10!

I'm excited to start! I've been thinking about my "habits" and finally figured it out! (And several of us have the same ones!)

Good Habit: Making sure I take all of my medicine and vitamins daily. (I take an OTC allergy medicine, and I guess in my head, since it is OTC, it isn't as important?! Dumb!)

Bad Habit: Leaving dirty dishes in the sink. (or the living room. Or the office. Or anywhere but clean!)

Go team 2! I am pumped!

    Awesome!

My bad habit to break is sleeping on the metro.

My good habit is to practice dancing with my husband to be for 15 minutes (to reinforce our dance lessons).

I have one meal and a half a liter of water down. It's a start...

    Good luck everyone!

Nice work @MsGremmlin - I'm just about 20oz in on water, did my workout (ran home from the auto garage since my car is getting worked on today) and had one meal. My weight was up this morning when I weighed in, after a weekend of debauchery, so I'm hoping for some big numbers this week!

@7SEVENJ9: I'm in the same boat! I'm ashamed to admit that I drank carbonated beverages at every chance this weekend beacuse I was anticpating not having them for four weeks. We also went to Busch Garden's Howl 'O Scream Saturday, and well... fried food is yummy! But, I'm looking forward to the whole grains and salads and such. It'll be a good cleanse before my wedding.

@MsGremmlin - yeah, Friday night we went out for a birthday party, I had breadsticks, pasta (but I did ask for a dish that was loaded with veggies) with olive oil and garlic, and then a few bites of dessert.

Saturday, I had 3 beers after the race at the post-race party, a steak and cheese sub and a few french fries... then Saturday night was the Bruins game, and we had people over... so we ordered pizza and I had 2 more drinks.

Yesterday, we met friends for lunch at a little pub a few towns over - we started with a Guinness Float (vanilla Stoli, vanilla ice cream and Guinness stout - delish!), the fried calamari appetizer, and then I got the roast beef sandwich. We got home and watched the Patriots game, and I had two slices of leftover pizza and a large glass of hard cider for dinner.

No wonder I was up 3lbs since my last weigh-in!

    Yay I'm so excited!!

I already had my first meal, did my morning workout and drank 24 oz of water so far. Woo hoo!

I had lost 5 pounds, but was back up 2 this morning... I too went a bit wild this weekend, but I figured it was my last hurrah before I started the challenge! We went to an Oktoberfest on Saturday where I drank way too much booze and then Sunday morning I was so hungover I was totally craving a big ole pancake breakfast. Haha, oops!

Anyways, I'm back on track and I really hope I can stick to my good/bad habits!

@TinyTina: Sounds like we all had "farewell" celebration this past weekend! haha The challenge is totally worth it, though. And always remember you get day off everything and one additional meal off. Those make this so much more manageable!

I agree with @MsGremmlin - last time I did the game during my self-imposed sober August, and so I didn't have any drinks on my off meal or off days... but I lost a decent amount of weight during the 4 weeks. I am hoping this will be a good re-do for me since I am back up and starting to slip back into bad habits!

I hope this is just what I need to kick my butt into shape! The SO and I are going on vacation the week before Christmas, and I would love to be down 7-10 pounds!

My bad habit to break is pressing snooze more than once.  I've been known to snooze more than an hour in the mornings. ugh.

My good habit to practice will be to read every night before bed, even if it is just 15 minutes.  I really enjoy reading, but the past few weeks I've been just sitting on the couch and watching tv. Not good.  And I bought a ton of books when Borders was going out of business, and I need to get through them.

    Woo! Go Team 2!

Woohoo!!! I'm ready! I've had 1 meal so far and I'm 20oz. of water in. My good habit to add is going to be adding 15 minutes of cleaning in the evenings (vacuuming, cleaning a bathroom, etc.) so that I don't get overwhelmed doing it all one day. My bad habit to break is not snacking after dinner.

    Yay team 1!!!

I have a question though, when do we report our points? Do we just keep track of it ourselves and report them at the end of the week?

@Boston Bee: Oh man, those are awesome habits! I like those!

So far, I already have 1 liter of water, 40 mintues of exercise, got my good habit in, and 2 meals! I just hope I can keep it up! :) Although, I am really competitive, so I think it'll be fine!

Question: for the bonus point, "Add 20% if you reached your fitness or weightloss goal" Does that mean if my goal was to do 3 days of cardio and 1 day of strength, I get it? Also, does the weightloss have to be 1%? My weekly goal is 1.25lbs, would that count?

@Ms. Gremmlin: Deff. I really like that we're allowed to have a 100 calorie bonus every day. I am a HUGE snacker so that will keep me from going off the edge. (There is a carton of 90 calorie per serving frozen yogurt in the freezer calling my name! Mmmmmm)

Oh and a weird logisitics question... To get points for sleep... Was that for last night's sleep or tonight's? I was a good girl and went to bed at 11 and woke up at 6 this morning!

@BluegrassBunny: If your goal is weightloss and you lose 1% of your starting weight for the week, you get the bonus points. Does that make sense? I think the point is for you to lose at least 1% of your weights, but if you want it to be higher, you can do that too. This is to make the game fair, since folks with more to lose will likely lose faster. Making it 1% makes the goal attainable for everyone.

@MsGremmlin - no worries! I'm glad to have the help with answering questions, since I'm running around like a lunatic today and only get bursts of time on WB! :)

Just ate my third meal, at 70oz of water so I'm on track there... I've got 3 miles under my belt today and am planning on doing my workout dvd when I finish this bottle of water (Shoulders & Arms today). But first, watching The Doctors. :)
