I thought of a fun little game!
I actually wanted some advice on what dress style would look good on me with my figure, but that felt like a self-centered thread, so I cooked up a little game to go with it.
Post a pic of yourself to show off your figure. I recommend not posting pics in lingerie (internet dangers!), but rather in a comfortable form-hugging outfit so that you can see your figure clearly. Also state if you’re insecure about something, what size you are and if you’re tall or short (sometimes hard to see in a photo)
Then advise the bee (or bees, this is more fun so everyone gets more advise) above you on what type of dress you think would look well on that bee. Is she a typical mermaid bride? Would a ballgown look stunning on her? Do you think she would rock a strapless dress with her slim shoulders? Or do you think an empire fit looks best on her? Give her tips, it might help! We’re no bridal consultants here, so I’d advise you still to do an actual fitting, but who knows.. You might get a tip regardig the dress fit and style from someone you hadn’t thought of yet! Of course, actual dress suggestions with images are the best!Q

I’m a US 12/UK 14, relatively short (5.5 or 1.65) and I’m scared my hips and butt are too big! I also have a bit of a belly which I hate and am trying to lose! That’s my problem area. I do like my waist though. I have a relatively long upper body and short legs
I think a mermaid or fit&flare might rock my curves, but I’m also a afraid a ballgown might swallow me whole as I’m not too tall.
Any suggestions? I’ll leave it open to you!

sfp: What a fun idea! I actually think a ballgown would look really amazing on you- you should definitely try some on and tell us how it goes! I also think an a-line or fit-and-flare would be lovely, but I might avoid the mermaid if you are self-conscious about your butt! That style tends to highlight the booty.
I have no idea why this is sideways. This is a super flattering picture of me- I’m 5’2, and have gained nearly fifty pounds since going on birth control and moving to college. I’m very self-conscious about my weight, and my least favorite parts that I’d like to minimize are my tummy, hips/thighs, and ESPECIALLY my back-fat. Lol. I love backless dresses, but I swear, back-fat has become the bain of my existence since gaining weight. I’m hoping to be back down to my pre-college size by my wedding in two years.
My boobs are my favorite body part, but I don’t really want a ton of boobage per se. I also randomly like my collarbone/neck. Fiance would probably like to see my butt take center stage as far as the dress goes, lol.

coachhw: Thanks for the tips! See, this is useful already! 🙂
And I think you’re super cute! You have a lovely face (haha random compliment but I mean it)
I’m not sure if you’ll like this, but I do think some sort of ball gown would look good on you, so that you can hide your problem area. And if you say you like backless dresses but are afraid that the back-fat will be too much (I’m afraid of the same haha), perhaps you could look for a fun lacey back that still accentuates the back but does cover it a bit?
Something like this perhaps?
That way, you can have your sexy back 😉 but also a ball gown to cover your tummy and hips/thighs. These are both Rosa Clara by the way.
But I also think a short fifties dress would look super good on you!
Something like this! That way you still accentuate the right parts of your body.

coachhw: I think a natural waist a line (or what’s between an a line and ball gown? ) with a portrait collar woild look great on you!

Anybody else who wants to play/need advise/wants to give advise? 🙂

I think you would look really good with a fitted bodice and then a little flare at the bottom kind of like a mermaid but not too mermaidy! I found this infographic on pinterest which is pretty cool with different kind of wedding dress styles you should look at it!

Maybe something like this:
I don’t have any really good pics for this purpose, but I’ll still play 😀
I’m 5′ 7½ tall, a UK 18-20/US 16-18 in street clothes, have broad shoulders and hips, long (if chunky) legs and a decent behind and rack. I’m also short waisted.

Lizbethc: Haha I actuall have that very same one already pinned! Very useful indeed!
Thanks for your feedback though! 🙂 I think you might be right!
Laululintu: Love that dress!
As for your own photo/style: An empire dress is what comes to mind at first, and when I googled short-waist, that was the suggestion too!
I also think a clean a-line without a belt would be a good option to give you more shape and stretch your waist a bit but without defining the short waist with a belt.
