    We are not…

    1) I am carrying a brooch bouquet. I mean, there is definitely no way I could throw that thing. It would probably maim, if not kill. And I’m definitely keeping it!

    2) Even though there are alternatives for a throwing bouquet, we really don’t have THAT many single guests… so it would be the whole,

    “call-people-out-publicly-and-drag-them-to-the-dance-floor-and-make-them-act-like-they-want-to-be-there-but-really-they-are-embarrassed-or-feel-awkward-and-most-of-the-guests-know-it-but-also-have-to-play-along”

kind of thing that no one really wants to be a part of. That’s why we aren’t doing it! I have seen it go terribly wrong too… like who lets their 12 year old run out to the floor to catch the bouquet? You KNOW its probably not a 12 year old boy catching the garter and that its supposed to go on the girls leg, right? Yeah, no.

We won’t have young kids there, but still. Not for us! When there’s a large group of people willing to go out and catch I think its fun!

We did it! It was funny and embarrassing but fun! Our DJ tried to convince us that the Best Man, hubby’s little brother, should be the “chair” for me to sit on during the garter toss. I said hell no to that one! It was awkward enough without sitting on my BIL lol.

@Kandiss16:  I accidentally voted NOOOOOOOO but I meant to say YESSSSS or MAYBE! 🙂 I will toss a bouquet to all of the ladies in attendence and attach a gift card or two to it. If FH wants to toss the garter, he may. What will NOT be happening is the horrible Part II where the garter guy sexually assaults the bouquet gal. That part makes me uncomfortable.

No. My bouquet was a custom made, studded leather and copper flower steampunk affair. It would have blinded anyone who got in the way. Also, I loved it far too much to give it to anyone else. There was another surprise bouquet that I was given and we did a somewhat ironic toss of it to my eldest son who gets married next month! Now that was fun!

As for garter tosses, they are not commonplace in England and that suits me just fine. I’m glad yours was a total blast but on the whole, the idea of a bloke rummaging around with his head up your frock is an acquired taste I was going to be bothered about acquiring.

We had a prize for whoever caught the bouquet/garter. The guys got soooooo into the garter toss and the pictures are priceless. We didnt do the whole “put the garter on the leg of the girl that caught the bouquet” deal, BUT our best man was so proud that he caught it that he wore it on his head and/or arm the rest of the night.

I’m grossed out by it, as is FI, so it was never on the table. We’ll be skipping the bouquet toss as well. Instead we’ll do the anniversary dance and give my bouquet to the winning couple. We have 2 50+ year couples who are more than likely to attend, so it should be fun.

We did! My husband put on quite a show!

He actually proposed to me after catching the garter at our friends’ wedding, so it had special meaning for us. I wore that same garter that he caught for our wedding. Unfortunately a single friend of ours caught it, so the spontaneous proposal tradition ends here. .. But his brother’s long time girlfriend managed to catch my heavy sunflower bouquet!  We had a blast!

Yes we did the bouquet and garter toss.  At first we weren’t going to do it, we literally changed our mind a few days before the wedding.  I was more against it then my FI at the time.  I just hate seeing people get dragged to the dance floor and only 2 or 3 people standing there.  My FI said not to worry that all our single guests will get up and we’ll have fun with it.  I’m so glad we did because it was halarious!  We had a good amount of girls stand up and a ton of guys.  Looking back at the photos it’s a great laugh … I can’t wait to see the video!

@Kandiss16:  If you ask, people will tell you. It makes me shudder. The guy who catches the garter has to put it on the girl who caught the bouqet. Lots of times they are egged on to make it sexual. GROSS! 🙂
