A fellow bee posted a photo of a gorgeous vintage inspired garter from bluegarters.com and I fell in love with it. However, as the garter cost $80, it quickly broke my heart. I enlisted the help of a crafty woman on Etsy who is replicating the garter for $30. I will be sure to post the inspiration photo and the finished product. I can't wait to get my hands on it! I do agree that some of the garters on Etsy cost a small fortune and I was perplexed by this.
i saw elasticized lace you can buy by the yard at craft stores. you could get some and sew it yourself and embellish with rosettes / ribbon / cameos / anything you'd like!
it baffles me as well that hair flowers go for $60-$80 or more. i bought faux flowers from Ikea and will be DIYing.
Ooh, yes! Please post the photos, Beachwedding.
Mrspaets - I hope you post your final creation too!
I got mine (real AND toss garter set) from GartersByKristi on Etsy for under $30 w/shipping. It included a blue bow inside for your "something blue." I recommend her!
I hear ya! I def couldn't see paying a lot of money for a garter considering that I didn't even toss mine. I just wanted to wear it and have it as a keepsake. I'm not sure if you're looking for something specifically from etsy or not, but I got my garter on sale for $9 at http://www.haircomesthebride.com/09SALE.htm They have 5 garters on sale right now ranging from $7-11. (I got my hair flowers from there too and they were great.)
I'm pretty handy and am going to attempt DIY garter like this one this weekend- I'll let you know how it goes and I'm positive i can do it for WAAAAAY less!!
I may or maynot get a garter off etsy. I found a jack skellington one that I fell in love with! I dunno how to DIY garters, i'm horrible at sewing! The one I want is 45 for a set, but that's so expensive!
I got my garter on etsy from The Garter Lady and loved it. I think the higher price is due to being hand made and the quality of the materials. Many of them are beautiful silk or vintage lace etc. That being said, mine as silk and it was $30.

Can someone explain to me why these garters on Etsy are going for so much money? I mean, $75 for garter? I just don't get it.
Has anyone tried making their own? Is there any garter DIYers out there? If so, please post your creations!
