- Wedding: August 2011
One of my favorite contributions to Gawker is Phyllis Nefler “The Wedding Expert”‘s weekly “Scoring Sunday Nuptials” piece that usually is posted on Monday mornings. The column begins this week with her wedding advice that actually pleases me because it’s pretty in line with what I’m planning for my wedding. I’ll post the link to the full page, but in a nutshell she recommends:
-If you’re going to have a DJ, just skip it and make an iPod mix.
-Skip favors, especially jam and jelly, and spend the extra money on a good live band.
-Serve good coffee, and good wine, but only during cocktail hour. Have a cocktail hour, with pigs in a blanket. (LOL)
-Get a wedding cake without fondant because nobody likes to eat it anyway.
-Do a buffet instead of a plated dinner, and serve late night snacks at the end of the night.
-If you have a wedding planner, make sure she’s not a raging bitch.
-Don’t blow a month’s salary on elaborate floral centerpieces no one will notice except for that certain guest who will have already found 50 other faults anyway.
Here’s the full link; the concept is basically that Phyllis Nefler goes to weddings/scours wedding announcements in NY papers and “scores” them. It’s usually hilarious.
